Google Cloud and Collibra, a leader in unified governance for data and AI, have announced a strategic expansion of their partnership. The collaboration centers on the essential role of business context and robust data governance within the modern open lakehouse environment. By integrating Collibra with Google Cloud Knowledge Catalog, joint customers can now achieve unified data discovery, semantics, and compliance across their entire Google Cloud ecosystem.
Bi-directional Synchronization: A new integration allows seamless metadata flow between Collibra and Google Cloud Dataplex.
Enriched Business Context: Ensures data includes lineage, ownership, and definitions necessary for AI readiness.
Open Lakehouse Governance: Combines data lake flexibility with data warehouse structure under a unified governance framework.
Public Preview Availability: The bi-directional integration is available immediately for joint customers to experience.
Automated Technical Discovery: Technical metadata from Dataplex is fed back into Collibra to keep the system of record updated.
Unified Semantic Layer: Provides a single, consistent view of governed data across the entire enterprise data estate.
In the era of AI, data is only as valuable as the context surrounding it. The partnership ensures that data is not merely cataloged but enriched with quality metrics and definitions. This allows data scientists and business analysts to trust the information they use for critical AI initiatives. By natively integrating Collibra-governed metadata into the Google Cloud Knowledge Catalog, organizations can ensure that governance policies are accessible directly within existing workflows.
"Data is only as valuable as the context around it, and our expanded partnership with Collibra is about delivering that context seamlessly to our customers," said Chai Pydimukkala, Data Governance, Sharing & Integration Product Lead at Google Cloud. "By enabling bi-directional metadata synchronization and tightly integrating Collibra's data governance context with Google Cloud Dataplex, we are helping organizations accelerate their path to data-driven insights with trust and control."
The bi-directional integration focuses on two primary flows: outbound enrichment and inbound discovery. Outbound, Collibra’s governance policies flow into Dataplex to make governed metadata instantly accessible. Inbound, technical insights from Dataplex are fed back into Collibra, ensuring the enterprise system of record reflects the current technical reality of the data landscape. This reduces operational silos and helps maintain regulatory compliance at scale.
"The future of data lies in making context and governance an inherent part of the data fabric," said Chandra Papudesu, VP, Product Management, Integrations & Lineage at Collibra. "This strengthened partnership with Google Cloud, focusing on bi-directional integration into Dataplex and the open lakehouse, ensures that our joint customers can achieve the highest levels of data trust, compliance and velocity, regardless of where their data resides."
The expansion is specifically tailored for the open lakehouse architecture, which requires high levels of data trustworthiness and security. As organizations move toward more complex data environments, the combined power of Collibra and Google Cloud provides the necessary infrastructure to scale AI and data use cases without increasing organizational risk.
