Fivetran, the data foundation for AI, today announced plans to become steward of the Great Expectations open source community and GX Core project, supporting the continued development of one of the industry's most widely used open source data quality frameworks. Under the planned transition, GX Core will continue as an open source, community-driven project. Fivetran intends to support ongoing project maintenance, ecosystem integrations, and community engagement.

The stewardship builds on Fivetran's vision for Open Data Infrastructure, an architectural approach focused on ensuring organizations can access, move, and use their data across systems without restriction. Announced alongside Fivetran's intent to merge with dbt Labs in October 2025, Open Data Infrastructure is designed to support open, interoperable data infrastructure for analytics and AI while preserving flexibility and freedom of choice for practitioners.
