Fiserv has announced a strategic collaboration with Visa to accelerate the adoption of agentic commerce, providing the payment infrastructure and security protocols necessary for merchants to engage in transactions initiated by AI agents.
Fiserv collaborates with Visa to accelerate agentic commerce for its merchant network.
The partnership will deploy Visa's Trusted Agent Protocol across Fiserv's acceptance ecosystem.
The protocol authenticates AI agents, verifies consumer intent, and secures payment data to distinguish trusted agents from malicious bots.
The goal is to simplify merchant entry into AI-driven commerce while ensuring transaction trust and safety.
Fiserv will also provide foundational capabilities like secure connectivity and operational intelligence to enable full intelligent commerce experiences.
The collaboration aims to bridge the traditional payment ecosystem with the emerging agentic commerce landscape.
A central component of the collaboration is the integration and deployment of Visa's Trusted Agent Protocol within Fiserv's merchant solutions. This protocol is designed to establish a security framework specifically for transactions initiated by autonomous AI agents. It functions to authenticate the agent's identity, ensure each interaction has authorized consumer intent, and validate that payment information remains intact and unaltered throughout the transaction.
This addresses a core challenge in agentic commerce: distinguishing legitimate, consumer-authorized AI agents from fraudulent bots. By embedding this protocol, Fiserv and Visa aim to provide merchants with the confidence to accept these new forms of automated transactions, knowing they are protected by robust identity and transaction safeguards.
Beyond secure acceptance, the partnership looks to enable the full scope of intelligent commerce. Fiserv's role is positioned as an enabler, providing the infrastructure, tools, and integration frameworks that allow merchants, independent software vendors (ISVs), and independent sales organizations (ISOs) to embed AI-driven agentic experiences into their operations seamlessly.
This includes providing secure connectivity for authentication, scalable integration options, and operational intelligence for functions like automated dispute resolution. By connecting its vast merchant network to Visa's global authentication and tokenization services, Fiserv aims to act as the critical bridge linking traditional payment systems with the emerging agentic commerce ecosystem.
Executives from both companies framed the collaboration as essential for merchant success in an automated future. “Fiserv and Visa are simplifying entry into the Agentic Commerce ecosystem, giving Clover and Fiserv merchants, as well as our ISV and ISO partners, the tools to capitalize on the groundbreaking experiences while fostering trust and safety," said Sanjay Saraf, SVP and Global Chief Product Officer at Fiserv.
Visa's Rubail Birwadker emphasized the foundational role of trust. “Through Visa Intelligent Commerce and our Trusted Agent Protocol, we are building trust into every layer of the agentic commerce experience,” said Birwadker, Global Head of Growth Products at Visa. “Partners like Fiserv are essential to scaling these secure, innovative solutions.”
