deepidv, an AI-native identity verification and anti-fraud platform, has closed a $1 million seed funding round while simultaneously expanding operations to San Francisco and launching a comprehensive suite of advanced fraud detection tools. Founded by two-time exited entrepreneur Shawn-Marc Melo, the Toronto-based company is scaling its platform to combat deepfakes, synthetic identity fraud, document manipulation, and other AI-generated threats across North America.

  • deepidv secures $1M seed funding to accelerate product development, U.S. go-to-market expansion, and team growth in Toronto, San Francisco, and Dallas.
  • The company opens a San Francisco office to strengthen access to fintech, proptech, hospitality, and iGaming customers in the U.S. market.
  • New fraud detection suite includes deepfake and synthetic media detection, real-time document forgery identification, biometric liveness checks, sub-150ms transaction risk scoring, and multi-agent AI compliance monitoring for AML, KYC, and CFT.
  • deepidv launches deepcam, an 8-inch tabletop device for in-person identity verification and access control in under 3.2 seconds, targeting SMBs such as hotels, gyms, liquor stores, and casinos.
  • The platform is fully in-house built for speed, adaptability, and security, with proprietary models trained specifically to detect AI-generated fraud vectors.
  • deepidv is onboarding customers in fintech, proptech, hospitality, HR, and iGaming verticals, positioning itself as trust infrastructure for the future of AI agents and verified identities.

Fueling Growth Amid Rising AI Fraud Threats

The seed round provides runway to expand engineering, sales, and product teams while addressing the rapid rise of generative AI-enabled fraud. Deepfakes, synthetic identities, and manipulated documents have made traditional verification methods insufficient, creating urgent demand for AI-native solutions.

“This round isn’t just about capital — it’s about conviction,” said Shawn-Marc Melo, Founder and CEO of deepidv. “We’ve built a platform that doesn’t just verify identity — it actively detects and prevents fraud at every layer, from deepfake selfies to manipulated bank statements. The seed round gives us the runway to bring this technology to every business that needs it, from San Francisco to the rest of North America.”

The San Francisco expansion places deepidv at the heart of North America’s AI and fintech ecosystem, complementing its Toronto engineering hub and Dallas operations for a tri-city footprint across two countries.

“The Bay Area is where the biggest identity and fraud challenges are being solved,” said Joey Chan, COO of deepidv. “Moving here puts us closer to the partners, customers, and talent that will help us scale. Toronto gave us our engineering DNA — San Francisco gives us the stage to compete globally.”

Comprehensive Fraud Detection Suite

The newly launched suite counters post-deepfake threats with:

  • Advanced detection of deepfakes and synthetic media in selfies and videos.
  • Real-time AI-driven document intelligence to identify forged IDs, bank statements, and financial records.
  • Biometric liveness detection to prevent spoofing attacks.
  • Sub-150-millisecond transaction risk scoring for fraud prevention during onboarding and payments.
  • Multi-agent AI monitoring for AML, KYC, and counter-financing of terrorism compliance.

The platform’s proprietary physical device, deepcam, extends these capabilities to in-person use cases with fast, secure verification and access control.

“Every line of code, every model, every piece of hardware — it’s all built in-house,” said Luka Piplica, Head of Development at deepidv. “That’s what allows us to ship faster, adapt to new fraud vectors in real time, and maintain full control over the security of our platform.”

With funding secured, U.S. expansion underway, and the fraud suite live, deepidv is positioned to become a leading player in AI-native identity security. The company is actively onboarding customers across multiple verticals.

“We believe every person will eventually have a personal AI agent, and every AI agent will need a verified identity,” Melo added. “deepidv is building the trust infrastructure for that future. This seed round is step one.”
