Collibra, a global leader in unified data and AI governance, announced the acquisition of Deasy Labs, a New York-based startup specializing in automated discovery and enrichment of unstructured data, on July 24, 2025. This strategic move makes Collibra the first platform to deliver unified governance across both structured and unstructured data, unlocking the potential of over 90% of enterprise data—such as PDFs, emails, and transcripts—for AI, analytics, and compliance initiatives.
Collibra acquires Deasy Labs to enhance unstructured data governance.
First platform to unify governance for structured and unstructured data.
Automates tagging, filtering, and enrichment of documents and emails.
Reduces manual effort with smart discovery and semantic tagging.
Supports AI-driven workflows and compliance at enterprise scale.
Integration into Collibra Platform expected in coming months.
Unstructured data, comprising over 90% of enterprise data, often remains unmanaged and underutilized. Deasy Labs’ technology addresses this by automatically discovering taxonomies, enriching files with structured metadata, and integrating them into AI-driven applications like GenAI assistants and semantic search. “As organizations scale their use of AI, the ability to unlock the value of unstructured data becomes critical,” said Felix Van de Maele, Collibra Founder and CEO. “Deasy Labs gives us the ability to tag, filter and enrich this dark data at scale—automatically turning unstructured files into structured, meaningful and trusted data assets ready for AI.”
The acquisition enhances Collibra’s platform with features like:
Smart Discovery: Rapidly scans file repositories to identify relevant content using semantic tagging, speeding up AI use case delivery.
Automated Semantic Layer: Replaces manual tagging with automated workflows that structure unstructured data with business-relevant metadata.
High-Accuracy AI Search: Improves enterprise knowledge management and AI tool performance by enriching unstructured content with contextual metadata.
These capabilities, set to integrate into the Collibra Platform over the coming months, will enable customers to classify and enrich unstructured files with minimal human input, driving smarter AI search, more accurate GenAI responses, and better compliance.
Founded in 2023 by former McKinsey & Co. developers, Deasy Labs brings AI-powered metadata management tools to Collibra’s ecosystem. “Our mission at Deasy Labs has always been to help organizations make sense of the massive volume of unstructured content they generate every day,” said Reece Griffiths, co-founder of Deasy Labs. “By joining Collibra, we can now bring that mission to life at scale.” The acquisition aligns with Collibra’s prior recognition as a leader in data governance by Gartner and IDC in 2024 and 2025, reinforcing its commitment to operationalizing AI with trust and compliance.
Industry experts view the acquisition as a pivotal step. “Unifying governance across all structured and unstructured data into trusted, governed data assets is no longer optional,” said Sanjeev Mohan, Principal at SanjMo and former Gartner Analyst. “Metadata-driven automation is key to unlocking the hidden value in documents, emails, and transcripts as it brings much-needed visibility and control to the least governed parts of the data estate.” This move positions Collibra to support enterprises in banking, healthcare, and other regulated industries with agentic AI use cases, from document analysis to call transcript processing.
Collibra’s acquisition of Deasy Labs marks a significant advancement in unified data governance, enabling enterprises to harness unstructured data for AI and analytics while maintaining compliance. By integrating Deasy Labs’ technology, Collibra is poised to lead the industry in delivering trusted, scalable AI solutions.
