The Red Dot Award is a hallmark of excellence in industrial design, celebrating innovation across diverse industries. Circus SE’s CA-1 Series 4 earned the “Best of the Best” distinction in the “Ready for Market” category, reserved for products ready for commercial deployment. This recognition highlights the CA-1’s seamless blend of functionality and aesthetic innovation, positioning Circus as a leader in robotics design.
“This award is a powerful validation of the vision and discipline that went into the CA-1,” said Nikolas Bullwinkel, CEO and Founder of Circus SE. “We always wanted to build a system that people trust, understand, and enjoy interacting with – something truly designed for everyday life.”
The CA-1’s design, developed with renowned German industrial designer Mario Selic, draws inspiration from Bauhaus principles, Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks, and the iconic Airstream trailer. The result isa robotic system that integrates effortlessly into human environments while maintaining a minimalist, functional aesthetic.
“From the early sketches, the ambition was to create something radically functional yet architecturally clear – a robotic system that integrates seamlessly into human spaces,” said Selic. The CA-1’s clean geometry and understated elegance reflect this vision, making it both a technological and visual standout.
Circus SE’s in-house teams, led by Gustavo Kemmerich, Head of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design, refined the CA-1 for serial production. “CA-1 began with a strong conceptual foundation, and throughout the design maturation, we remained committed to preserving the original design intent. We wanted to develop an autonomous product that feels effortless – for the operator, the environment, and the customer,” said Kemmerich. With production underway, the CA-1 is set for commercial deployment this fall, poised to transform food service operations.
The CA-1 will be featured at the Red Dot Winner Exhibition at the Red Dot Design Museum in Singapore following the October ceremony. This international platform will highlight Circus SE’s role as a pioneer in robotics and design, showcasing the CA-1 to a global audience of innovators and technologists.
This award underscores Circus SE’s commitment to redefining the intersection of robotics, design, and human experience. By blending cutting-edge technology with thoughtful design, the CA-1 sets a new standard for how autonomous systems can enhance everyday environments in the food service industry.
