ChatOn, one of the most popular AI chatbots with 100 million downloads, has released a feature that allows users to quickly verify information and news stories. Announced in Miami, the feature detects false or misleading claims by comparing them against reliable sources and highlighting where the evidence doesn't add up, especially effective at flagging fabricated statistics, misattributed quotes, and manipulated stories.
To fact-check, users simply paste in a claim, article snippet, or AI-generated text, and ChatOn returns a clear verdict along with supporting sources and context. To do this, it compares multiple sources, assesses their reliability, and provides users with the reasoning behind its decision.
"In an age of information overload, knowing what's real and what isn't matters more than ever. Acting on false information can lead to poor decisions that have real consequences—at work, in your studies, or in your everyday life. That's why we developed a feature to help our users verify information," explains Artsiom Turavets, Lead Product Manager at ChatOn.
The demand for a fact-checking feature was identified in a previous ChatOn survey on the use of AI chatbots. The study showed that 39% of Americans verify AI-generated information using Google or other sources. In addition, 36% of Americans encounter outdated information, and 19% encounter made-up sources or references.
ChatOn's fact checker is designed for anyone who scrolls through news and social media and tries to separate genuine facts from opinions, rumors, and outright disinformation. At the same time, some groups of users, such as journalists, researchers, and content creators, will find ChatOn to be a real game-changer saving them hours of slogging through multiple sources.
