Mobile Work AI Agent: Safer, Smarter Productivity

The mobile work AI agent, built on Cerence’s xUI platform, integrates Microsoft 365 Copilot to enable secure, voice-first access to productivity tools in vehicles. It supports tasks like drafting messages, building meeting agendas, and transforming OneNote ideas into documents, all via natural voice commands. The agent delivers morning debriefs, daily overviews, and proactive calendar management, learning user preferences, such as pausing conversations during specific journey segments.

“We’ve all been there—you’re driving, and your phone is dinging as new emails come in,” said Christian Mentz, Cerence AI Chief Revenue Officer. “Our agent helps minimize this impulse through a natural, voice-first experience that doesn’t compromise safety or security.”

Safety and Context-Aware Design

Designed to combat distracted driving, a major concern linked to slower reaction times and increased accidents, the agent adjusts functionality based on whether the user is driving, parked, or in an autonomous vehicle. Its multi-modal integration ensures hands-free, eyes-on-the-road interaction, reducing the need for manual inputs. The agent also provides proactive navigation suggestions, syncing with work calendars to guide users to meetings seamlessly.

Enterprise and Automaker Benefits

Integrated with Microsoft Intune, the agent transforms vehicles into secure, managed devices, enabling compliant access to Microsoft 365 tools, a critical feature as most vehicles lack corporate IT trust. This ensures enterprise-grade security and policy enforcement.

For automakers, the agent offers a premium, loyalty-building feature scalable across vehicle tiers. Compatible with OEM architectures, it allows brands like Renault, Volkswagen, Audi, Cupra, Seat, and Skoda to deliver a branded Microsoft 365 Copilot experience, enhancing user satisfaction and market differentiation.

“Our collaboration with Cerence AI brings Microsoft 365 Copilot into the car, enabling drivers to stay connected without compromising safety or compliance,” said Dayan Rodriguez, Microsoft Corporate Vice President, Global Manufacturing and Mobility.

Collaboration and Technology

Since early 2024, Cerence and Microsoft have collaborated to integrate ChatGPT via Microsoft Azure OpenAI, benefiting millions of vehicles. The mobile work AI agent leverages Cerence’s CaLLM™ Edge, an automotive-grade small language model built with Microsoft’s Phi-3 SLMs and Cerence’s automotive dataset, ensuring specialized performance for in-car use cases.

Market Context

The rise of mobile work and distracted driving concerns, with research highlighting smartphone-related risks, underscores the need for solutions like Cerence’s agent. The automotive AI market is projected to grow to $7 billion by 2030, driven by demand for safer, connected experiences. Cerence’s stock (CRNC) was priced at $3.15 on September 8, 2025, with a market cap of $131.85 million, reflecting a 1.29% intraday gain, signaling investor confidence in its AI innovations.

Event Details

Cerence will showcase the mobile work AI agent at IAA Mobility 2025, Booth D21, Hall B2, in Munich. A panel, “What you Really, Really Want? New Ways in Customer Centricity,” featuring Cerence and Microsoft, is scheduled for September 9, 2025.
