Anthropic has donated $1.5 million to the Apache Software Foundation to support infrastructure, security, and community efforts behind widely used open source projects that power modern AI and software ecosystems.
The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) has received a $1.5 million donation from Anthropic to strengthen the infrastructure, security, and community supporting its extensive portfolio of open source projects.
Many of today’s core technologies — spanning data infrastructure, cloud-native systems, developer tooling, and web platforms — are built on Apache projects. These projects rely on the ASF’s vendor-neutral infrastructure to remain secure, scalable, and accessible to global contributors.
As AI development accelerates, the demand for trusted, independent open source foundations has increased significantly. The ASF plays a vital role by providing governance, security oversight, legal protection, and operational infrastructure that allows open source communities to thrive without vendor influence.
