Algolia names Stephen Lynch as new Chief Executive Officer. Lynch brings deep expertise in AI search, machine learning, and enterprise platform scaling to lead Algolia’s next phase of growth in intelligent retrieval and AI-native applications.
Algolia, the AI Search and Retrieval platform trusted by more than 18,000 businesses and millions of developers worldwide, has appointed Stephen Lynch as Chief Executive Officer. Lynch succeeds Bernadette Nixon, who transitioned from the CEO role at the end of December and continues to serve on Algolia’s Board of Directors.
Stephen Lynch brings two decades of experience building and scaling enterprise platforms, with particular depth at the intersection of AI search, machine learning, and large-scale system design. His appointment aligns with a pivotal moment in the industry, as search transitions from a standalone feature into the core intelligence layer powering generative AI, agentic workflows, and real-time decision systems.
Bernadette Nixon, Board Member at Algolia, said: “Stephen is a seasoned product leader and senior executive with a strong track record of translating complex AI capabilities into scalable platforms that developers and enterprises trust. As AI systems become more context-aware, multi-modal, and agent-driven, his experience aligning product, engineering, and commercial execution positions Algolia to lead in intelligent retrieval and next-generation discovery.”
Most recently, Lynch served as General Manager & EVP of Enterprise at AlphaSense. During his nearly eight-year tenure, he helped evolve the company from an early-stage platform into a global category leader serving more than 6,000 organizations, including 88% of the S&P 100. He played a central role in expanding product, engineering, and commercial capabilities.
Lynch added: “Algolia has built one of the most trusted, high-performing search and retrieval platforms in the world. We’re entering a new era of intelligent, real-time, and increasingly agent-driven applications, where retrieval becomes foundational. I’m delighted to be joining at this moment of accelerating growth and opportunity, and excited to help define what comes next.”
The leadership transition signals Algolia’s commitment to accelerating its role as the intelligence and memory layer for AI-native applications. Retrieval, relevance, and real-time data orchestration are becoming critical infrastructure for modern software development and user experiences.
This move strengthens Algolia’s position in the competitive AI search and retrieval market, where scalable, high-performance technology is essential for enterprises building agentic and generative AI experiences.
