Alation Inc., the data intelligence company, has unveiled Alation Agent Builder at its user conference revAlation, empowering enterprises to create production-ready, metadata-aware AI agents for structured data with enhanced accuracy, governance, and reliability. This no-code platform leverages the Alation Knowledge Layer to contextualize responses, integrating with over 100 data sources and supporting seamless deployment into workflows, enabling organizations to transition from prototypes to scalable, compliant AI solutions.
Structured data underpins essential financial and operational reporting, yet developing AI agents to interact with it demands exceptional precision to avoid errors in definitions, filters, or queries that could undermine business decisions. Alation Agent Builder addresses these hurdles by enabling the creation of metadata-aware agents that draw from the Alation Knowledge Layer—curated, governed data products rooted in the platform's metadata. This ensures responses are infused with accurate business context, elevating agent performance beyond experimental prototypes to reliable, production environments.
The platform's no-code development environment allows users to construct agents using natural language prompts, eliminating the need for custom coding. Prebuilt agents and tools accelerate setup, covering functions like Query, Catalog Search, Deep Research, and Dashboard interactions, alongside a library of reusable components. For integration, Agent Builder connects effortlessly to over 100 data sources, including Snowflake, Databricks, Tableau, and Power BI, with deployment options via MCP or REST API. Security and governance are embedded, inheriting fine-grained access controls from the Alation platform to maintain compliance and trust. Vendor neutrality further enhances flexibility, permitting the use of models like Claude, GPT, and Gemini, or integration of proprietary LLMs to sidestep lock-in.
Built-in evaluation and monitoring tools, including Q&A test sets and custom judges, facilitate achieving greater than 90% accuracy prior to deployment, a critical factor in enterprise readiness. “When we were evaluating Numbers Station as an acquisition target, we saw that their customers were reaching 90% accuracy with evaluation frameworks, and that was the key to moving from prototype to production,” said Deepesh Chourey, SVP Engineering at Alation. “Evaluations aren’t just a feature, they’re a differentiator between a demo that looks promising and an enterprise-ready system that customers can trust.”
JLL exemplifies practical application, employing Alation to query structured lease and property data for informed renewal recommendations. "With the Agent Builder, we’re reimagining how people and AI work together within JLL Azara powered by JLL Falcon," said Srihari Kumar, Chief Product Officer at JLL. “These emerging agents are designed not only to provide answers but to guide decisions, coordinate actions, and surface opportunities as they arise. This marks the beginning of a new chapter where intelligent data agents augment human expertise, delivering faster insights and more strategic outcomes for our clients.”
“Powering agents to read from and write to structured data enables enterprises to unlock tremendous value from AI, and it’s where precision matters most,” said Satyen Sangani, co-founder and CEO, at Alation. “With Agent Builder, we’re giving enterprises a way to move beyond prototypes and actually build agents that are accurate, governed, and enterprise-grade. This is how AI goes from experiments to production.”
