Overfuel, the AI-powered digital growth engine for performance-first dealer websites, released its second annual Powersports Core Web Vitals (CWV) Performance Report at the start of 2026. The analysis of 1,519 powersports dealer websites across the United States and Canada reveals that nearly 79% fail Google's Core Web Vitals standards on mobile, desktop, or both, highlighting a persistent industry-wide performance gap.

Quick Intel

  • Overfuel audited 1,519 powersports dealer websites; 679 had sufficient CrUX data for official Google CWV assessment.
  • 667 sites (78.7%) failed Core Web Vitals on mobile, desktop, or both.
  • 372 sites (54.8%) failed CWV benchmarks on both mobile and desktop.
  • Only 180 sites (21.3%) passed CWV on both mobile and desktop.
  • Google's CWV metrics—Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Interaction to Next Paint (INP), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)—are confirmed ranking signals affecting organic visibility, paid media efficiency, and user engagement.
  • Poor performance wastes ad spend (up to $30 per $100 invested), increases bounce rates, reduces leads, and raises cost per click, especially on mobile.
  • The report shows a clear divide: performance-first platforms consistently pass CWV unless dealers introduce disruptive scripts or poor implementations.
  • Systemic issues stem from excessive third-party scripts, unoptimized media, and outdated architecture on legacy dealer sites.

The findings confirm that website performance has become a critical gatekeeper for powersports dealers. As mobile shopping dominates, slow-loading, unstable, or shifting pages lead to higher abandonment, suppressed search rankings, and diminished returns on traffic investments. Google's CWV thresholds directly influence visibility in Search, Maps, and AI-driven features, making optimization essential for competitiveness.

"Two years of data now confirm this isn't a one-off problem—it's a systemic failure across the powersports industry," said Alex Griffis, CEO of Overfuel. "Dealers are investing heavily to drive traffic, but when their websites fail Core Web Vitals, Google suppresses visibility and shoppers abandon the experience. Performance is no longer a technical nice-to-have; it's the gatekeeper to growth, efficiency, and trust."

These results align with broader automotive digital trends, including Shift Digital's 2025 report, which quantified significant ad waste tied to CWV failures. Overfuel emphasizes that modern platforms designed with Core Web Vitals as a core requirement maintain strong performance, while legacy sites struggle under technical debt.

"Dealers don't often lose because their inventory or pricing is worse—they lose because their site is slower, less stable, and harder for shoppers to use," Griffis added. "The data is clear: performance failure is revenue failure."

The 2026 report positions speed, stability, and responsiveness as foundational infrastructure for dealer websites, not optional post-launch tweaks. Dealers prioritizing CWV-aligned platforms gain measurable advantages in visibility, conversion, and cost efficiency.
