Relativity has announced the acquisition of Gavel, an AI-native legal technology company known for its document drafting, review, and automation capabilities. The move strengthens Relativity's legal data intelligence platform by bringing AI-powered legal workflows directly into Microsoft Word, enabling legal professionals to create, edit, and manage work product while remaining connected to the data and context behind their cases.

RelativityOne currently serves as the company's AI platform for legal data intelligence, helping organizations organize, analyze, and act on critical legal data. However, legal documents such as motions, contracts, and briefs have traditionally existed outside the platform in Microsoft Word.
Through the integration of Gavel, Relativity aims to bridge that gap by connecting document creation and collaboration directly to the underlying matter data. This approach could enable legal teams to manage work product without disconnecting from the evidence and context that inform legal decisions.
Work product generated through tools such as Relativity aiR for Case Strategy and aiR Assist could become editable within Microsoft Word while remaining linked to the corresponding matter in RelativityOne. This would allow lawyers to revise, collaborate, and finalize documents while maintaining synchronization with case information.
The integration is expected to extend Relativity's system of action into the environments where legal professionals spend much of their time. By embedding AI-assisted drafting and collaboration capabilities into Microsoft Word, the company seeks to create a more seamless legal workflow.
