The divide between traditional virtualized infrastructure and modern cloud-native environments is being bridged with a new unified platform. Mirantis has announced the latest release of Mirantis k0rdent Enterprise, which now includes Mirantis k0rdent Virtualization, enabling enterprises to run and manage both traditional virtual machines (VMs) and containerized cloud-native applications on a single, consistent infrastructure platform.
Mirantis k0rdent Enterprise now manages both VMs and containers on one platform.
The update aims to eliminate operational silos and reduce infrastructure complexity.
New features include an Automated Distributed Resource Balancer for VMs.
Enhanced AI support includes NUMA topology preservation for optimal GPU performance.
The platform provides full lifecycle management for workloads anywhere, from cloud to edge.
It offers an open-source-based alternative to proprietary virtualization solutions.
As enterprises modernize their IT stacks and integrate AI, managing separate infrastructures for VMs and containers creates significant operational overhead. The latest k0rdent Enterprise release directly addresses this by converging VMs, containers, and AI workloads onto a single Kubernetes-native platform. This unified approach allows for consistent management, orchestration, and observability across the entire fleet, whether deployed on-premises, in public clouds, or at the edge.
“Innovative IT teams are looking for virtualization alternatives, and as AI transforms enterprise IT requirements, now is a critical time to modernize infrastructure,” said Shaun O’Meara, chief technology officer, Mirantis. “Mirantis k0rdent Enterprise now converges VMs, containers, and AI with a single modern infrastructure platform. By eliminating operational silos through unified management and orchestration, enterprises can reduce operational complexity and infrastructure costs.”
The release introduces several critical features for performance and AI enablement. The Automated Distributed Resource Balancer (DRB) for VMs intelligently identifies servers with available resources and performs node balancing automatically to ensure optimal performance. For AI workloads, features like NUMA topology preservation, Hugepages, and CPU-pinning are included to deliver the high-performance configuration needed for GPU passthrough and efficient resource management.
Mirantis k0rdent Enterprise is built on open-source k0rdent, a composable Kubernetes management platform that uses declarative automation and GitOps workflows. This foundation simplifies infrastructure management and accelerates digital transformation. The new virtualization capabilities also extend to Mirantis Kubernetes Engine for k0rdent (MKE 4k), providing a comprehensive solution for enterprises modernizing their application portfolios.
This release positions Mirantis k0rdent Enterprise as a strategic solution for enterprises navigating the transition to cloud-native and AI-driven infrastructure. By supporting both legacy and modern workloads with a unified management plane, it provides a pragmatic path for reducing complexity and costs while accelerating innovation across hybrid and edge environments.
