iXAfrica Data Centres partners with Oracle to host Kenya’s first Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) public cloud region in Nairobi, delivering low-latency, sovereign cloud services that accelerate digital transformation, support AI-powered innovation, and strengthen East and Central Africa’s digital economy.
iXAfrica Data Centre Limited, East and Central Africa’s premier hyperscale, carrier-neutral, and AI-ready facility, has been chosen by Oracle as the host partner for the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) public cloud region in Nairobi. This milestone, initially announced by H.E. President William Ruto in January 2024, meets growing regional demand for OCI services and marks a significant step in Kenya’s digital infrastructure advancement.
iXAfrica’s 22 MW campus stands out as the only execution-ready hyperscale facility in the market capable of supporting large-scale public cloud deployments immediately. Built to global standards, it features carrier neutrality, high-density AI compute capacity (up to 50 kW per rack with free-air cooling), resilient power architecture, and strategic proximity to critical connectivity infrastructure.
“We are delighted to be in execution mode to bring OCI to Kenya,” said Snehar Shah, CEO, iXAfrica. “With this collaboration, iXAfrica is leveraging the renewable energy, talent, and abundant submarine and national connectivity available in our market.”
Hosting OCI locally allows organizations across East and Central Africa to deploy latency-sensitive applications with dramatically reduced response times. This proximity supports faster development of AI-powered services, strengthens data sovereignty compliance, and enables innovation closer to end users—eliminating performance penalties associated with routing workloads to distant global regions.
“Around the world, governments and enterprises rely on OCI for its security, scalability, and ability to run mission-critical workloads that enable innovation at scale,” said David Bunei, country leader Kenya, Oracle. “These unique capabilities and our collaboration with iXAfrica will further support the growth of the country's digital economy.”
The partnership establishes a foundation for a more resilient, sovereign, and globally competitive digital economy in Kenya, anchored on world-class, renewable-powered infrastructure. With over 90% of Kenya’s electricity generated from renewable sources, iXAfrica aligns sustainability goals with high-performance compute needs for modern AI and cloud workloads.
iXAfrica’s advanced deployment status—covering construction, power, and connectivity—ensures it meets the rigorous operational demands of global cloud providers, delivering immediate, at-scale public cloud availability in the region.
