The new R4 series is engineered to meet the demands of modern AI centers, which require high-speed transport in very high port densities for use cases like lossless AI training, inference, and high-scale backbones. Arista addresses this with a broad portfolio of fixed and modular solutions, enabling petabit-scale networking for cloud titans, service providers, and enterprises.
A key innovation in the announcement is the introduction of 3.2 Tbps HyperPorts. This technology provides an ultra-capacity interface for scale-across interconnections between data center locations. Arista states that this can enable a 44% shorter job completion time for AI bandwidth flows compared to traditional load balancing over four separate 800 Gbps ports.
The launch includes several key product families. The 7800R4 modular system sets a new standard for flexible port density, supporting up to 576 ports of 800GbE in a single system. The 7280R4 offers a complementary fixed form factor spine, and the 7020R4 family provides secure leaf switches for high-speed server connectivity.
Security is integral to the new offerings, with every port supporting simultaneous wirespeed encryption via Arista's TunnelSec technology, which includes MACsec, IPsec, and VXLANsec to protect data in transit.
