Airbyte has announced a new service that enables organizations to migrate from Airbyte Core (open source) to Airbyte Cloud without rebuilding pipelines or performing expensive historical data re-syncs. The migration capability preserves an organization's existing Airbyte workspace, including sources, destinations, connections, schedules, stream configurations, and incremental synchronization checkpoints.

The new migration capability preserves an organization's existing Airbyte workspace, including sources, destinations, connections, schedules, stream configurations, and incremental synchronization checkpoints. Airbyte Cloud continues syncing data exactly from the point where the prior self-managed deployment was stopped. Rather than recreating every connector and reprocessing months or years of historical data, customers can migrate production environments while maintaining incremental synchronization state and continuing to write to the same destination warehouse. The new service removes the biggest barrier faced by organizations wanting to move to Airbyte Cloud: maintaining existing pipelines without forcing expensive and time-consuming historical re-syncs.
Because customer data remains in the existing warehouse, organizations avoid duplicate data loading, warehouse compute charges, API rate-limit issues, and lengthy historical backfills. During migration, connections remain inactive until customers approve final activation, preventing duplicate writes and ensuring a controlled transition. Many data integration platforms require organizations to perform complete historical synchronization after migration, consuming days of engineering effort while generating substantial API usage and cloud warehouse costs.
