  • Indosat deploys Nokia’s AI-driven Energy Efficiency solution for RAN.
  • Solution uses AI to shut down idle equipment, cutting energy use.
  • Reduces carbon footprint without impacting network performance.
  • Delivered via SaaS, avoiding high upfront costs and maintenance.
  • Supports Indosat’s shift to an AI-powered, sustainable TechCo.
  • Builds on a successful pilot in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Java.

AI-Powered Energy Optimization

Nokia’s Energy Efficiency solution, deployed across Indosat’s RAN in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Central, and East Java, uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze real-time traffic patterns. “As data consumption continues to grow, so does our responsibility to manage resources wisely,” said Desmond Cheung, Director and Chief Technology Officer, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison. The system automatically adjusts or shuts down idle radio equipment during low-demand periods, reducing energy consumption and emissions while maintaining network performance and customer experience.

Sustainable Innovation Through SaaS

Offered as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, Nokia’s solution eliminates large upfront capital costs and on-site maintenance, making it a cost-effective and green option. Its intelligent thermal management further reduces cooling energy needs, contributing to Indosat’s sustainability goals. The solution, rolled out in weeks, aligns with Indosat’s ISO 50001 certification for energy management, a first for a Southeast Asian operator, reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship.

Driving Indosat’s TechCo Transformation

This partnership is a key step in Indosat’s journey to become an AI-powered TechCo, integrating intelligent technologies and cloud-based platforms. “We are very pleased to be helping Indosat deliver on its commitments to sustainability and environmental responsibility,” said Henrique Vale, Vice President, Cloud and Network Services, APAC, Nokia. The initiative builds on a successful pilot demonstrating energy savings in live network conditions, positioning Indosat as a leader in sustainable telecom innovation.

Broader Impact on Indonesia’s Digital Ecosystem

The collaboration enhances Indosat’s operational efficiency and supports Indonesia’s digital transformation goals. By embedding AI-driven automation, Indosat unlocks new levels of agility and environmental responsibility, aligning with its vision to empower Indonesia’s 277 million people through smarter, greener networks. This move complements earlier partnerships, such as Indosat’s AI-RAN deployment with Nokia and NVIDIA, further advancing its sustainable, AI-native infrastructure.

Indosat’s partnership with Nokia marks a significant milestone in building sustainable, AI-driven telecommunications in Indonesia. By reducing energy use and emissions without compromising performance, the Nokia Energy Efficiency solution positions Indosat to lead in environmental responsibility and digital innovation, fostering a greener, more connected future.
