At the Mobile AI Summit during MWC Shanghai 2025, Huawei and industry partners reached a consensus on advancing Mobile AI Foundation Networks, emphasizing enhanced 5G-A uplink experiences and network-service synergy to monetize mobile AI. The summit, held from June 18–20, 2025, also launched the GSMA Foundry project, Mobile Network for Thriving AI, signaling a shift toward experience-centered network construction.
The summit, attended by operators, AI ecosystem partners, and scholars like Wen Ku of the China Communications Standards Association, highlighted the integration of 5G-A and AI as a cornerstone for network evolution. Wen Ku emphasized setting standards and fostering ecosystem collaboration to pioneer mobile AI development. The consensus identified uplink speed, latency, and stability as critical for supporting AI-driven services like real-time video calling and spatial computing, requiring at least 20 Mbps uplink speeds.
Huawei’s GigaBand solution, leveraging air interface resource (AIR) pooling and optimization solver (Optsolver), supports elastic 5G-A networks with SLA assurance for services like live streaming and cloud gaming. In Hong Kong, GigaBand achieved a 2.28-fold increase in 5G throughput while maintaining 4G stability, enabling operators to build efficient, low-carbon networks. This facilitates a transition from mobile broadband (MBB) to mobile AI monetization.
Speakers, including Zhi-Quan Luo (IEEE Fellow) and Ookla representatives, discussed AI’s role in optimizing networks and enabling digital transformation. The shift from traffic-based to experience-based monetization was a key focus, with operators exploring premium service packages for HD video and gaming. China, with over 10 million 5G-A users across 300 cities, leads this trend, supported by Huawei’s collaborations with major carriers.
The inauguration of the GSMA Foundry’s Mobile Network for Thriving AI project marks a pivotal step toward experience-centric network construction. This initiative positions operators to capitalize on AI-driven services, fostering new revenue streams through enhanced network capabilities.
Huawei’s showcase at MWC Shanghai 2025, themed “Accelerating the Intelligent World,” highlighted its leadership in 5G-A and AI integration, driving the telecom industry toward a new era of growth.
