Clarivate Plc has launched Derwent Patent Monitor, a new solution designed to streamline collaborative intellectual property (IP) and research and development (R&D) patent reviews. This tool leverages proprietary data and AI-powered evaluation to help patent professionals accelerate first-pass reviews for critical tasks like determining patentability, assessing freedom to operate (FTO), and evaluating opposition, enabling them to identify potential threats and proceed with greater confidence.

Quick Intel

  • Clarivate launches Derwent Patent Monitor for collaborative patent reviews.

  • The tool uses AI to evaluate patent threats and accelerate first-pass risk analysis.

  • It is built on proprietary data from the Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI).

  • The platform is designed to break down silos between IP and R&D teams.

  • It replaces scattered emails and spreadsheets with structured, project-based workflows.

  • The goal is to help teams file stronger patents and minimize infringement risk faster.

Streamlining IP and R&D Collaboration

A significant challenge for IP leaders is enhancing the partnership between patent teams and R&D to file stronger patents and reduce infringement risk. Derwent Patent Monitor addresses this by integrating flexible collaboration and review workflows with unique Derwent patent data and AI technology. This unified approach helps teams quickly identify potential risks and accelerate critical IP decisions, moving beyond the limitations of siloed teams and disjointed tools.

Powered by Proprietary Data and AI

The software's foundation is the Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI), a comprehensive database containing over 67 million invention summaries written by more than 850 Clarivate subject matter experts. This rich, proprietary data source allows the integrated AI to power thorough evaluations, helping collaborators save significant time when reviewing patents of interest and surfacing the most critical risks for stakeholders.

Enhancing Efficiency with Purpose-Built Workflows

Derwent Patent Monitor is purpose-built for collaboration, featuring structured, project-based reviews and real-time feedback. This eliminates the reliance on inefficient communication methods like scattered emails and spreadsheets. By centralizing the process, teams become more aligned and informed on key reviews, resulting in a faster, more connected patent monitoring workflow that boosts overall efficiency.

Shandon Quinn, Vice President, Patent Intelligence at Clarivate, said: "One of the biggest challenges IP leaders mention to me is upgrading their team's partnership with R&D for filing stronger patents and minimizing infringement risk. Yet too often the process is slowed down by siloed teams and disjointed tools and processes. Derwent Patent Monitor is the first tool of its kind to bring together flexible collaboration and review workflows, unique Derwent patent data and AI technology to help teams quickly identify potential risks and accelerate critical IP decisions for FTO, opposition and patent filing."

This launch underscores Clarivate's commitment to providing transformative intelligence that empowers professionals to make faster, more informed decisions in the complex field of intellectual property.
