BorderPlus, a global talent mobility platform, introduced its AI-powered language coaching app at the 2025 Hauptstadtkongress Medizin und Gesundheit in Berlin on July 1, 2025. Designed to transform B2 German language certification into practical clinical fluency for international nurses, the app addresses critical communication gaps in Germany’s healthcare sector.

Quick Intel

  • Launched at Hauptstadtkongress 2025, Berlin, on July 1, 2025.

  • AI-driven app enhances clinical communication for B2-certified nurses.

  • Features AI-powered roleplays, real-time feedback, and employer dashboards.

  • Part of a $3M initiative to place 3,000 nurses in Germany by March 2026.

  • Built on proprietary voice-to-text models for realistic hospital simulations.

  • Backed by $7M in funding, with Onea Care acquisition enhancing operations.

Addressing Clinical Communication Challenges

Despite many international nurses arriving in Germany with B2 German certification, a significant number struggle with professional recognition due to inadequate clinical language preparation. “Many B2-certified nurses fail recognition, not because they lack knowledge, but because they aren’t trained in the communication, tone, and clinical context German hospitals expect,” said Leon Bauer, Managing Director of Onea Care. The AI-powered app bridges this gap by immersing nurses in realistic simulations of German hospitals, care homes, and everyday scenarios, ensuring they are workforce-ready.

Key Features of the App

The app leverages proprietary voice-to-text models to deliver:

  • AI-Powered Roleplays: Simulates real clinical interactions to build instinctive communication skills.

  • Real-Time Pronunciation and Tone Feedback: Provides instant corrections to improve fluency.

  • Communication Scoring: Measures performance under pressure for targeted improvement.

  • Employer Dashboards: Enables hospitals to track nurse readiness and integration.

“Hospitals are fast-paced, multilingual, and emotionally intense. This app prepares nurses for that reality, not just by testing vocabulary, but by challenging how they perform under pressure,” said Ayush Mathur, Co-founder of BorderPlus.

Strategic Initiative and Market Impact

The app is part of a $3M initiative to strengthen Germany’s healthcare workforce, addressing a projected shortage of 150,000 nurses by 2025 and 500,000 by 2030. BorderPlus aims to place over 3,000 nurses by March 2026 through a tech-enabled, transparent migration process. The company’s acquisition of Onea Care, a German healthcare recruitment firm, and a $7M funding round led by Owl Ventures in February 2025, bolster its capacity to scale operations.

Broader Context and Expansion Plans

Founded in 2025 by Mayank Kumar (upGrad) and Ayush Mathur (OYO Europe), BorderPlus has rapidly expanded its footprint, with training centers in Pune, Mumbai, and Kochi, and plans for Delhi NCR, Northeast, and South India. The company’s partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) enhances its ability to train Indian healthcare workers for global careers, particularly in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). BorderPlus also operates finishing schools in the Philippines and Brazil, training 150 nurses for global placements.

The app’s debut at Hauptstadtkongress 2025, followed by a private networking lunch with hospital leaders and policymakers, underscores its potential to improve patient care and team integration. With a valuation of ₹255Cr and plans to expand into hospitality, retail, and logistics, BorderPlus is redefining global workforce mobility through ethical recruitment and AI-driven training.
