Zoom has launched AI Companion 3.0, a significant upgrade to its intelligent assistant that introduces agentic AI workflows designed to transform meeting conversations directly into action. The update includes a new web interface, personal task automation, and enhanced writing tools, expanding Zoom's evolution from a meeting platform into an "AI-first intelligent work orchestration" system.
Zoom launches AI Companion 3.0, featuring new agentic AI capabilities and a dedicated web interface.
Key features include agentic information retrieval, automated personal workflows (beta), and agentic writing tools for Zoom Docs (coming soon).
The platform uses a "federated AI" approach, combining Zoom's own models with those from OpenAI, Anthropic, and NVIDIA.
Select capabilities are now available to free-tier Zoom Basic users, with a standalone subscription option at $10/month.
New functionalities aim to automate follow-ups, provide daily reflection reports, and streamline content creation from meeting context.
The release underscores Zoom's strategic shift from a communications tool to an AI-powered work coordination platform.
A central component of AI Companion 3.0 is a new conversational web surface accessible at ai.zoom.us. This interface is designed to act as a central hub where users can interact with the AI to uncover insights from past meetings, generate follow-up tasks, draft documents, and track progress without manually uploading transcripts or crafting complex prompts. It connects to work interactions across Zoom and integrated third-party apps like Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.
The update introduces true agentic functionality, meaning the AI can autonomously perform multi-step tasks. This includes Agentic Retrieval to find information across connected apps, Post Meeting Follow Up to draft emails and tasks, and Personal Workflows (beta) that can automatically execute routines like delivering a daily summary of chat threads. An Agentic Writing Mode helps draft and refine business documents directly based on meeting content.
Aligning with its goal to "democratize access to AI," Zoom is making select AI Companion 3.0 capabilities available to users on free Zoom Basic plans to try. Users can also purchase AI Companion as a standalone add-on for $10 per month without needing a paid Zoom Workplace license, significantly lowering the barrier to entry for advanced AI tools.
Zoom leadership explicitly framed this release as a strategic turning point. “The launch of AI Companion 3.0 is a turning point for Zoom, continuing our transformation from a meeting company into a pioneer of AI-first intelligent work orchestration,” said Velchamy Sankarlingam, president of Product and Engineering at Zoom. The federated AI architecture, which leverages a combination of proprietary and leading third-party models, is designed to provide high-quality, context-aware assistance while maintaining Zoom's commitments to data privacy and security.
AI Companion 3.0 represents Zoom's most assertive step yet in redefining its market position. By embedding agentic AI that can understand work context and autonomously drive tasks to completion, Zoom is no longer just a place where work is discussed; it is becoming an active participant in organizing and executing that work. This evolution positions Zoom to compete more directly in the broader productivity platform arena, challenging incumbents by leveraging its unique foundation in real-time communication data.
