Upland Software, Inc., a leader in AI-powered knowledge and content management software, has appointed Sean Nathaniel as Chief Executive Officer, effective May 1, 2026. Jack McDonald, who founded the company in 2010 and has served as Chairman and CEO since inception, will continue as Chairman of the Board.

Nathaniel returns to Upland after serving in leadership roles from 2013 to 2020, including Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President of Workflow Automation Solutions. He was part of the executive team during the company’s 2014 initial public offering. Most recently, he served as President and CEO of DryvIQ, a provider of AI-driven unstructured data management solutions.

  • Nathaniel previously held CTO and EVP roles at Upland from 2013–2020 and was key during the 2014 IPO.

Leadership Transition Drives AI Focus

Nathaniel’s return leverages his deep familiarity with Upland’s technology and market, combined with recent executive leadership in AI-centric data solutions. His expertise at the intersection of AI and enterprise content aligns with Upland’s strategic direction.

“Sean is the right person to lead and accelerate Upland’s continued AI transformation,” said McDonald. “He helped build the company from the ground up and has developed deep expertise at the intersection of AI and enterprise content, which is exactly where Upland’s future lies.”

“Enterprises are sitting on a massive amount of knowledge, content, and data, but until it’s contextualized, governed, and trusted, it can’t effectively power AI. That’s exactly what Upland solves,” said Nathaniel. “As CEO, my priority will be to ensure Upland serves as a core intelligence layer for the agentic enterprise, enabling customers to unlock the full value of their knowledge, content, and data as they scale AI and agent-driven operating models.”
