ThetaRay launches Ray, an Agentic AI investigation suite embedded in its Investigation Center, designed to accelerate AML case handling, standardize investigations across jurisdictions, and produce regulator-ready documentation while keeping human analysts in full control.

Quick Intel

  • Ray autonomously handles full AML investigations: evidence collection, behavioral analysis, counterparty evaluation, geolocation validation, adverse-media scanning, and structured case-file generation.
  • Reduces manual investigation time by up to 70% while improving consistency, transparency, and auditability across teams and jurisdictions.
  • Features an on-demand AI assistant that answers analyst questions, validates assumptions, runs additional checks, summarizes documents, and creates visualizations like charts for supporting evidence.
  • Introduces a consistent reasoning framework to minimize subjectivity and ensure every decision is traceable to evidence, meeting stricter global AML requirements.
  • Built on Microsoft Azure with Azure OpenAI Service and Azure Kubernetes Service for secure, scalable, governed deployment.
  • Addresses surging alert volumes, lean compliance teams, and converging regulatory standards (e.g., EU AMLR, FinCEN priorities) by shifting focus from manual work to analyst judgment.

Transforming AML Investigations with Agentic AI

Financial institutions face mounting pressure from evolving global regulations, including the EU’s Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR) and unified rulebook, as well as FinCEN’s emphasis on transparent, evidence-based Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs). Rising alert volumes combined with expectations for higher investigative quality and defensible documentation create significant operational strain on compliance teams.

ThetaRay’s Ray addresses this challenge head-on as one of the first Agentic AI suites specifically built for AML investigations. Embedded within the ThetaRay Investigation Center, Ray extends Cognitive AI from detection to resolution, autonomously managing repetitive and time-intensive tasks while preserving full human oversight and judgment.

Ray autonomously executes end-to-end investigations, aggregating data, performing behavioral and counterparty analysis, validating geolocation, scanning for adverse media, and preparing audit-ready case files with structured narratives. An integrated on-demand AI assistant supports analysts by responding to queries, validating assumptions, conducting deeper checks, summarizing documents, and generating visualizations such as charts and graphs to strengthen case evidence.

Ensuring Consistency and Regulatory Readiness

A core innovation of Ray is its consistent reasoning framework, which standardizes investigative processes across analysts, teams, and jurisdictions. This reduces subjectivity, enhances defensibility, and ensures every decision remains fully traceable to supporting evidence—critical in an environment where regulators demand transparency and explainability.

“For years the industry tried to modernize investigations with faster detection engines or better interfaces. But the real bottleneck has always been the investigation itself. Ray is one of the first Agentic AI suites built to take that burden on to enable analysts to do their best work,” said Moshe Siman-Tov, Chief Operating Officer at ThetaRay. “Banks and fintechs have incredibly capable investigators; what they lack is capacity. Ray restores that capacity. It becomes a partner that handles the complexity so analysts can stay focused on judgment.”

“Manual investigations inevitably vary from analyst to analyst. Ray introduces a consistent reasoning framework across the entire operation, reducing subjectivity, and ensuring that each case, no matter who handles it, stands up to scrutiny,” said David Shapiro, Regulatory Affairs Manager at ThetaRay. “Most importantly, Ray was built so that every decision is traceable back to evidence. In a regulatory environment that demands transparency, AI explainability is the foundation.”

Secure, Scalable Deployment on Microsoft Azure

Ray is engineered on Microsoft Azure, leveraging Azure OpenAI Service and Azure Kubernetes Service to deliver secure, governed, and scalable Agentic AI capabilities suitable for production use in compliance-critical environments.

“Financial institutions are moving beyond experimentation toward real, production-grade use of Agentic AI in compliance-critical environments,” said Tyler Pichach, Global Head of AI Strategy and GTM for Payments and Banking at Microsoft. “Platforms like Ray demonstrate how Agentic AI, when deployed on a secure and governed cloud like Microsoft Azure, can help banks modernize complex investigation workflows while meeting regulatory expectations for transparency, control, and trust.”

This architecture enables institutions to reduce manual effort significantly—often by as much as 70%—while achieving greater consistency, transparency, and audit readiness to meet rising global AML demands with confidence.

“This is an incredibly important moment for us and for the industry,” said Brad Levy, CEO of ThetaRay. “I couldn’t be more energized by the opportunity to tackle one of the biggest challenges in financial crime compliance. Our mission is simple: to help make global markets more modern and secure for all. The future will be shaped by people who care and by megatechs and specialized fintechs working closely together to raise the bar for transparency, accountability, and lasting trust.”

Ray is available immediately within the ThetaRay Investigation Center for banks, fintechs, and payments platforms managing high alert volumes and stringent regulatory requirements.
