Teradata , a San Diego-based leader in cloud analytics, announced the launch of the open-source Teradata MCP Server – Community Edition on July 29, 2025, at a San Diego event. Built on the Teradata Vantage platform, this framework empowers AI agents with deep semantic access to enterprise data, enabling context-aware querying, analysis, and management with tools for data quality, security, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). The launch addresses the critical need for AI agents to leverage trusted, transparent data to deliver real business outcomes, particularly in sectors like healthcare.

Quick Intel

  • Launched July 29, 2025, in San Diego, the MCP Server – Community Edition is open-source and available to Teradata Vantage customers.

  • Enables AI agents to access enterprise data with tools for data quality, security, feature management, and RAG.

  • Supports healthcare use cases by unifying EHRs, lab results, and telehealth data for personalized care.

  • Features modular tools: Developer, Data Quality, Security, Feature Store, RAG, and Custom Tools.

  • Teradata’s Q1 2025 revenue was $418 million, with EPS of $0.66, surpassing expectations.

  • A commercial-grade MCP Server with enhanced security and compliance is planned for 2026.

Empowering Agentic AI with Contextual Data

The MCP Server addresses the challenge of providing AI agents with meaningful context, bridging the gap between raw data and actionable insights. “Success in this new era of AI hinges not just on model sophistication, but on meaningful context,” said Louis Landry, Chief Technology Officer at Teradata. Built on the Vantage platform, the MCP Server integrates with ClearScape Analytics to support predictive analytics, generative AI, and operational insights, enabling AI agents to reason, remember, and act with precision.

Healthcare Use Case: Personalized Patient Care

In healthcare, fragmented data across electronic health records (EHRs), telehealth platforms, and wearables hinders patient-centric care. The MCP Server unifies these sources, allowing AI agents to deliver context-aware recommendations. For example, it can analyze EHRs, lab results, and telehealth transcripts to detect early warning signs or suggest treatment adjustments, improving clinical outcomes while maintaining compliance. This scalability supports millions of records cost-effectively, a critical need in healthcare’s data-driven transformation.

Technical Capabilities

The MCP Server – Community Edition, hosted on GitHub, offers a modular framework with:

  • Developer Tools: Streamline database management with tailored prompts.

  • Data Quality Tools: Ensure data integrity for AI-driven insights.

  • Security Tools: Manage access and permissions with built-in workflows.

  • Feature Store Tools: Operationalize features for machine learning.

  • RAG Tools: Simplify vector store creation for generative AI use cases.

  • Custom Tools: Enable domain-specific tool integration.

A commercial-grade version, expected in 2026, will add advanced security, observability, and compliance features for production deployment.

Financial and Strategic Context

Teradata, with a market cap of $2.12 billion and 60% gross margins, reported $1.7 billion in annual revenue. Its Q1 2025 earnings showed $418 million in revenue (below $425.42 million expectations) but an EPS of $0.66, beating forecasts. Despite a Northland downgrade to Market Perform with a $21 price target, Teradata expects ARR stabilization in late 2025. The MCP Server aligns with Teradata’s AI Factory and ModelOps updates, enhancing enterprise AI deployment with Azure, AWS, and Google integrations.

Competitive Landscape

Teradata joins Snowflake and Databricks in the MCP ecosystem, with its open-source approach fostering interoperability. Unlike Snowflake’s resource-driven MCP servers or Databricks’ managed solutions, Teradata’s focus on deep semantic access and healthcare applications sets it apart. The company’s upcoming Possible 2025 conference in Los Angeles (October 6-8) will showcase further AI innovations.
