Pinecone, a leader in knowledge infrastructure for AI, has announced its expansion into the AWS Europe (Frankfurt) Region. This move marks the first time the company’s full serverless vector database and knowledge infrastructure are available in central Europe, catering specifically to organizations in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The expansion is designed to provide low-latency performance and ensure local data residency, meeting the stringent regulatory requirements of the European market.
Pinecone expands its serverless vector database to the AWS Frankfurt Region (eu-central-1).
The launch includes Pinecone Nexus, a knowledge engine designed for autonomous AI agents.
KnowQL is introduced as a declarative query language for streamlined agentic retrieval.
Pinecone Marketplace debuts with over 90 production-ready knowledge applications.
A new Builder tier and Dedicated Read Nodes offer significant cost reductions for developers.
Native full-text search is now integrated into the core Pinecone database in public preview.
The shift from assistive AI to autonomous agents has created new challenges for data retrieval. Pinecone Nexus is introduced to address these by transforming raw data into task-optimized artifacts, effectively moving reasoning upstream. This knowledge engine aims to solve common issues such as high token costs and low task completion rates. By using a context compiler and a composable retriever, Nexus provides agents with structured, grounded knowledge and per-field citations.
"The best knowledge infrastructure should be accessible to every builder, in every region," said Ash Ashutosh, CEO of Pinecone. "Expanding to Frankfurt gives European organizations the ability to build on the same infrastructure that more than 9,000 customers worldwide rely on — with the data residency, low latency, and regulatory alignment that enterprises in the region require. Combined with today's launches of Nexus, KnowQL, Marketplace, and our new Builder tier, we are delivering the most comprehensive knowledge infrastructure for AI at a scale and price point that removes every barrier to building."
The announcement also includes the launch of the Pinecone Marketplace, featuring more than 90 applications across sectors like legal, HR, and customer support. These ready-to-use solutions allow organizations to deploy AI capabilities without complex infrastructure assembly. To support various scales of operation, Pinecone introduced a $20 per month Builder tier and Dedicated Read Nodes, the latter providing up to 97% cost reduction for high-throughput production workloads.
Furthermore, Pinecone is enhancing its core database features with native full-text search. This integration enables hybrid retrieval, combining the semantic breadth of vector search with exact-match precision. For organizations with strict compliance needs, the Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) option allows Pinecone to be managed within a customer's specific cloud environment. The Frankfurt region joins existing serverless hubs in the U.S., Ireland, and Asia, solidifying Pinecone’s global footprint.
