Netlify, the platform designed for collaborative building between AI agents and human developers, has announced a transformative approach to software creation. Through the introduction of Agent Runners, teams can now initiate new projects via simple prompts at a dedicated portal. This launch signifies a shift toward "Agent Experience" (AX), where the transition from an AI-generated prototype to a production-ready application is seamless, eliminating the traditional overhead and rework associated with AI-assisted coding.
Prompt-to-App Launch: Developers can start projects at netlify.new using leading coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini CLI.
Unified Infrastructure: Both AI-generated prompts and manual code run on the same production-ready infrastructure and workflows.
Eliminating Tradeoffs: The platform removes the need to choose between rapid AI prototyping and a stable platform for scaling.
Built-in Capabilities: Serverless functions, Identity, Blobs, Forms, and AI Gateway are available immediately from the project start.
Enterprise Governance: A new Internal Builder seat allows non-engineering teams to build with agents under formal IT oversight.
Immediate Availability: The new capabilities became available on the Netlify platform starting March 18, 2026.
The primary challenge with many contemporary AI coding tools is their tendency to become less effective as a project moves toward complexity and serious production requirements. Netlify’s Agent Runners address this by ensuring that the initial prompt-based project lives on the same infrastructure that will eventually support it at scale. This allows developers to work in code while other team members iterate using prompts, all within a singular, cohesive workflow that requires no migration or rebuilding as the application matures.
“Coding agents are becoming the new way people start software. That changes what a platform needs to do. Netlify has to offer the best agent experience in the market,” said Matt Biilmann, co-founder and CEO of Netlify. “It’s not enough to help a builder get something live quickly. You have to give them a real project on infrastructure that is ready for production.”
Beyond individual developers, this launch targets enterprise teams looking to adopt AI-assisted building across various business functions. The introduction of the Internal Builder seat provides a governed environment where product managers, designers, and marketers can utilize agents to prototype internal tools. By integrating role-based access and engineering oversight, Netlify allows these teams to experiment and build within existing organizational controls, ensuring that only vetted applications reach the production stage.
“If your project takes off and goes to production, everything you need is already there,” said Clark Wimberly, design engineer and co-founder of Superfun.
From the moment a project is initiated through an Agent Runner, it has access to Netlify’s full suite of platform features. This includes advanced tools such as AI Gateway and serverless functions, which are critical for building modern, high-performance applications. By providing these resources at the outset, Netlify enables teams to move beyond basic prototypes without the need to "stitch together" disparate infrastructure components later in the development lifecycle.
About Netlify
Netlify is the platform where agents and developers build together. More than 10 million developers and teams use Netlify to build, launch, and scale sites and applications on a single platform. Netlify coined agent experience (AX) to define a new way to build, with humans and agents working side by side. Netlify is defining that new era. Whether teams start with AI or code, Netlify gives them the infrastructure, workflows, and built-in capabilities to get to production faster. Brands including Figma, Mattel, and Riot Games trust Netlify to power their digital experiences.
