Klarna has launched its Agentic Product Protocol, an open standard designed to make over 100 million products across the internet instantly discoverable and understandable by AI agents. The protocol provides a structured, real-time feed of product data and pricing across 12 markets, establishing what Klarna describes as a foundational layer for the next generation of agent-driven commerce.
Klarna launches an open Agentic Product Protocol for AI-driven commerce.
It provides a structured feed of 100M+ products and 400M prices across 12 markets.
The protocol allows AI agents to find, compare, and recommend products with live data.
Merchants connect once via API to make products discoverable by any supporting AI agent.
It supports multiple feed formats (Google Merchant, Shopify, Amazon, etc.).
The goal is to create a common language for product data exchange in the AI era.
Klarna positions the protocol as a necessary infrastructure for the future of commerce, where AI agents act as primary shopping interfaces. "Before agents can buy, they need to know what exists,” said David Sykes, Chief Commercial Officer at Klarna. “Klarna’s Agentic Product Protocol defines a common language for how AI systems, merchants, and platforms exchange product data."
The protocol aggregates and standardizes product information from Klarna's extensive network, which includes over 850,000 retailers. This creates a single, live source of truth that AI systems can query to understand product availability, pricing, and attributes across different merchants and regions without navigating disparate, unstructured websites.
For merchants, the protocol offers a simplified path to visibility in the emerging AI commerce landscape. By connecting to Klarna's hosted API once—using existing feed formats like Google Merchant, Shopify, or Amazon—they can make their entire catalog discoverable to any AI agent or platform that adopts the protocol. This eliminates the need to reformat data for each new AI platform and allows products to be surfaced directly in AI assistant conversations without ads or paywalls.
For AI platforms and developers, the protocol provides ready access to a vast, structured product dataset, enabling them to build more capable shopping and recommendation agents without the complexity of sourcing and normalizing data from millions of individual retailers.
The Agentic Product Protocol specification and API access are available immediately for developers, AI platforms, and merchants. Klarna's launch of this open standard represents a strategic move to position itself at the center of the AI-commerce ecosystem, leveraging its existing retailer network and data capabilities to facilitate a new wave of commerce interaction.
