F5, a global leader in application delivery and security, announced major updates to its Application Delivery and Security Platform (ADSP) at AppWorld. The enhancements include F5 Insight for unified observability and proactive intelligence, support for agentic AI workloads, future-ready post-quantum cryptography (PQC), advanced API protection, and simplified packaging for F5 Distributed Cloud Services, helping organizations simplify operations, strengthen security, and accelerate secure AI adoption across hybrid, multicloud, and edge environments.

Quick Intel

  • F5 Insight delivers end-to-end observability and AI-driven guidance for BIG-IP users, with MCP integration and natural-language interactions for predictive analytics and action recommendations.
  • BIG-IP v21.1 (targeted Q2 2026) adds NIST-compliant PQC ciphers, quantum-resistant TLS/SSL VPN, MCP protection for AI workloads, OpenAPI 3.1 WAF support, and HTTP/3 threat blocking.
  • F5 NGINX gains real-time observability into agentic AI traffic via MCP metadata inspection, enabling unified governance without separate AI gateways.
  • Distributed Cloud Services introduces simplified Essentials and Enterprise packages with integrated CDN and API security to reduce SKU complexity and ease SaaS adoption.
  • Updates address AI-driven complexity, fragmented tools, and alert overload by collapsing telemetry into actionable insights and supporting modern application architectures.
  • F5 Insight is generally available for BIG-IP, with SaaS version forthcoming; NGINX MCP observability is available now in open source and enterprise editions.

F5 Insight: Unified Observability and Proactive Intelligence

F5 Insight, a new XOps component of ADSP, transforms scattered telemetry into clear operational narratives and next-best actions. Leveraging OpenTelemetry and MCP integration with popular LLMs, it provides real-time monitoring across application and infrastructure layers in hybrid/multicloud setups.

Key benefits include:

  • Comprehensive visibility into performance, security, and user experience.
  • Actionable KPIs, visualizations, and predictive analytics to identify issues before impact.
  • Natural-language queries and AI-generated guidance for faster prioritization and remediation.

Available now for BIG-IP (self-managed), with SaaS expansion planned and future integration across NGINX and Distributed Cloud Services.

BIG-IP v21.1: Modernization for AI and Future Threats

Building on v21.0, BIG-IP v21.1 targets Q2 2026 general availability with enhancements for AI workloads and cryptographic readiness:

  • Post-quantum cryptography support with NIST-compliant ciphers and quantum-resistant TLS/SSL VPN in BIG-IP Zero Trust Access.
  • MCP protection and session persistence for secure, performant AI/agentic workloads, plus Dynamic Client Registration (DCR) for automated resource access.
  • Advanced WAF protection for OpenAPI 3.1 APIs and HTTP/3 traffic against XSS, SQL injection, and other threats.
  • High-performance declarative API and TMOS control plane upgrades for automation and reliability.

NGINX: Agentic Observability via MCP

F5 NGINX now inspects MCP metadata in traffic to monitor AI agent behavior, surfacing request patterns, latency, throughput, and errors for known and shadow AI activity. This single-gateway approach reduces tool sprawl and enables unified governance across applications, APIs, and AI workloads.

Available immediately in NGINX Open Source, with enterprise features in NGINX Plus.

Simplified Distributed Cloud Services Packaging

New Essentials and Enterprise starter packages bundle integrated CDN, API security, and other capabilities, replacing dozens of SKUs with value-driven bundles to simplify SaaS adoption and infrastructure convergence.

“Most operations teams are stuck babysitting complexity they did not sign up for,” said Kunal Anand, Chief Product Officer at F5. “They have a dozen tools, a thousand alerts, and not enough signal. F5 ADSP collapses that mess into a platform. With F5 Insight, we turn scattered telemetry into a clear story and the next best action. Then we extend that foundation for agentic AI workloads and future-focused cryptography, because the infrastructure is changing, ready or not.”

“F5 is addressing operational challenges while also enabling more effective AI application deployments and proactively preparing for future needs,” said Paul Nicholson, Research VP, Cloud and Datacenter Networks at IDC. “A key highlight is F5 Insight, which delivers the visibility and actionable intelligence customers require, with notable AI capabilities. Combined with MCP enhancements for AI applications and PQC support, F5 is meeting requirements for modern applications.”

These updates position F5 ADSP as a unified, future-ready platform for secure, observable application delivery in AI-driven environments.
