Digital Realty, the world’s largest cloud- and carrier-neutral data center platform, has expanded its Digital Realty Innovation Lab (DRIL) network with new facilities in Singapore, Japan, and the United Kingdom. This marks the first extension of the DRIL program into Asia Pacific and Europe, following the successful launch of the inaugural lab in Northern Virginia in September 2025.

The new locations will provide customers and partners with fully supported, production-like environments to test, validate, and optimize AI and hybrid cloud architectures before scaling to full deployment. All three facilities are expected to be operational for use later this year.

  • Digital Realty expands DRIL network to Singapore, Japan (Greater Tokyo at NRT12), and the UK (London), following Northern Virginia launch in 2025.
  • Labs offer real-world testing for AI and hybrid cloud workloads, including high-density AI/HPC up to 150kW per cabinet, direct liquid cooling, and energy/cooling trade-off evaluation.
  • Supports direct cloud connectivity via ServiceFabric® interconnection platform, AI workload orchestration through Private AI Exchange (AIPx), and latency testing across regions.
  • Aligns with strong AI momentum: Singapore’s digital economy at 18.6% of GDP, Japan’s 10+ trillion yen investment in semiconductors/AI by 2030, UK’s £23.9B AI sector revenue.
  • Features high-density colocation, AI-specific power/cooling/GPU optimization, and hybrid cloud validation to accelerate pilot-to-production journeys.
  • Ecosystem includes partners like AMD, Cisco, and Lenovo focused on scaling AI-ready infrastructure.

Enabling Next-Generation AI Infrastructure

The Singapore DRIL will function as a digital innovation hub, connecting local customers, partners, research institutions, and global technology providers to develop, test, and deploy AI and hybrid cloud solutions in a mature digital market.

In Japan, the DRIL at the NRT12 data center in Greater Tokyo is purpose-built for advanced AI and high-performance computing, featuring 20 racks with direct liquid cooling to support high-power-density workloads.

The UK DRIL in London will serve as a dedicated validation environment for enterprises and partners to test AI and hybrid cloud deployments ahead of large-scale rollouts.

“Sustaining rapidly expanding digital economies requires innovation ecosystems built on infrastructure that is not only AI-ready, but also efficient, resilient, and trusted,” said Serene Nah, Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific, Digital Realty. “Since launching the DRIL in the US, we've seen strong demand from customers and partners across Asia Pacific seeking dedicated environments to validate AI and hybrid cloud architectures before deploying at scale. Bringing this capability to Singapore and Japan reflects the digital maturity of these markets and their critical role in shaping the region's long-term digital competitiveness.”

“European AI adoption is expected to grow rapidly, and London sits at the center of that growth,” said Séamus Dunne, Managing Director, UK & Ireland, Digital Realty. “Launching the Digital Realty Innovation Lab in London gives enterprises and partners a real-world environment to validate AI and hybrid cloud architectures before rolling them out across live environments. It’s a critical step in helping organizations deploy next-generation infrastructure faster, and with greater confidence.”

Purpose-Built for AI and Hybrid Cloud Validation

Each DRIL location leverages Digital Realty’s Pervasive Datacenter Architecture (PDx®) methodology and global experience in AI-ready infrastructure. Key features include:

  • High-density AI/HPC testing with support for up to 150kW per cabinet
  • Energy and cooling-aware evaluation for performance vs. efficiency trade-offs
  • AI-specific optimization of power, cooling, and GPU resources
  • Hybrid cloud validation with direct connectivity via ServiceFabric®
  • AI workload orchestration through Private AI Exchange (AIPx) for secure, low-latency integration
  • Latency testing across distributed locations and cloud destinations

The expanded global DRIL network strengthens collaboration with ecosystem partners like AMD, Cisco, and Lenovo, accelerating responsible AI deployment and reinforcing regional digital competitiveness.
