Coupa has announced the acquisition of Tonkean, an agentic intake and orchestration platform, in a move designed to strengthen its autonomous spend management and agentic trade network capabilities. The acquisition expands Coupa’s ability to deliver AI-driven workflow orchestration and automated trade execution across its global network of buyers and suppliers.
The company said the acquisition positions Coupa to provide fully integrated Agentic-as-a-Service capabilities that support autonomous workflows from procurement requests through order processing and payment execution.
Coupa described the acquisition as a major step in building what it calls the world’s leading agentic trade network.
The company said the addition of Tonkean complements its existing procurement, supplier and spend management capabilities while enhancing workflow orchestration across enterprise systems.

Tonkean becomes Coupa’s fourth strategic acquisition focused on autonomous trade and AI-powered spend management following the acquisitions of Cirtuo, Scoutbee and Rossum.

Coupa said Tonkean’s orchestration framework enables enterprises to automate complex workflows while integrating with existing enterprise architectures without requiring system replacement.
According to Coupa, the combined platform will help organizations streamline operational processes while improving adoption and execution efficiency.
The company stated that Tonkean’s natural language interface has helped increase user adoption rates by 2.2x while reducing operational cycle times by 50%.

Coupa said the acquisition strengthens its ability to automate procurement and supplier management workflows through AI-powered orchestration.
The platform is designed to connect buyers, suppliers and enterprise systems while reducing manual handoffs and operational inefficiencies.
The company noted that suppliers will benefit from expanded API-based integrations that support one-to-many connectivity across enterprise procurement networks.
