Cognizant has announced a strategic partnership with Cognition, the creator of Devin AI—the world’s first autonomous software engineer—to bring end-to-end AI-driven software development capabilities into enterprise environments. By combining Devin’s autonomous task execution and Windsurf’s agentic development environment with Cognizant’s engineering platforms and delivery models, the collaboration aims to accelerate application modernization, boost engineering productivity, and deliver measurable business value across the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
Traditional AI coding assistants provide suggestions, but Devin operates independently—handling planning, execution, validation, and iteration across complex systems. Windsurf augments individual engineers in real time. Together, these technologies, paired with Cognizant’s enterprise-grade governance, platforms, and scale, enable organizations to modernize legacy applications faster, improve developer productivity, and apply AI responsibly in production.
"AI is fundamentally transforming how software is built. At Cognizant, 30 percent of our code is already generated with AI, and we aim to reach 50 percent in the near future. But achieving this requires more than powerful models or tools," said Ravi Kumar S., Chief Executive Officer of Cognizant. "As an AI builder, Cognizant bridges the gap between AI infrastructure investments and measurable business outcomes. Our partnership with Cognition combines autonomous and agentic engineering capabilities with enterprise‑grade delivery, governance and scale, helping clients modernize faster and realize real value."
The collaboration is purpose-built for large organizations, integrating Cognition’s technologies into Cognizant’s delivery frameworks, security controls, and operational rigor. This ensures AI adoption at scale without compromising compliance or reliability. Early engagements in complex engineering environments have demonstrated productivity gains, faster modernization, and more efficient ongoing operations.
"We are excited to partner with Cognizant to bring autonomous software engineering into real enterprise environments," said Scott Wu, Founder and CEO of Cognition. "Cognizant's depth in engineering, delivery, and transformation makes them a strong partner for scaling agentic and autonomous AI responsibly. Together, we are enabling organizations to move from assisted development to a new model of software engineering execution powered by AI."
The partnership will initially target modernization programs, with future expansion planned across industries to support AI-native software engineering that aligns with business priorities.
