  • Cognizant opens a new AI Lab and Cognizant Moment™ Studio in Bengaluru, India.

  • The hub is part of the company's $1 billion investment in generative AI.

  • It extends the research of Cognizant's San Francisco AI Lab, holder of 61 U.S. patents.

  • Focus areas include multi-agent systems, AI decisioning, responsible AI, and user experience.

  • The initiative blends PhD-level research with experiential design to create intelligent platforms.

  • It aims to bridge AI infrastructure investment with tangible business value for clients.

Bridging AI Research and Human-Centered Design

The Bengaluru hub is designed to accelerate enterprise transformation by integrating two critical disciplines. The India AI Lab will conduct applied research in areas like multi-agent architectures, trustworthy decision-making, and responsible AI, building on the patent-winning work of Cognizant's San Francisco lab. Adjacent to it, the Cognizant Moment™ Studio focuses on leveraging these AI advancements to reimagine customer and user experiences, ensuring technology implementations are both powerful and intuitive.

This combined approach addresses a core challenge in enterprise AI adoption: ensuring sophisticated AI systems are paired with trustworthy, effective design to support dependable business decision-making and user adoption.

Advancing the "AI Builder" Strategy with Applied Research

Cognizant positions itself as an "AI builder" that connects client infrastructure investments to realized business value. The India AI Lab is central to this, staffed with PhD-level scientists and engineers tasked with developing proprietary frameworks, reusable AI components, and experiential platforms. Their work aims to set new industry benchmarks, particularly in the evolving field of Agentic AI, which is seen as essential for next-generation enterprise solutions.

"The India AI Lab is a major expansion of Cognizant's research footprint and our ambition to accelerate the next wave of AI innovation," said Babak Hodjat, Chief AI Officer at Cognizant. "Bengaluru's exceptional engineering and scientific talent will help us expand our work in scaled, reliable and inter-operable multi-agent systems, evolutionary AI and trustworthy decision-making."

Fostering Innovation through Partnerships

To fuel its innovation pipeline, the India AI Lab will establish partnerships with leading universities across the country. These collaborations are intended to drive joint research initiatives, provide real-world experimentation grounds, and create internship opportunities, thereby helping to cultivate the next generation of AI talent in India's vibrant tech ecosystem.

The opening of this integrated hub underscores Cognizant's commitment to deepening its AI capabilities and intellectual property portfolio while providing a tangible space where technological expertise and human insight converge to engineer intelligent business solutions.
