The round includes participation from Y Combinator, Phosphor Capital, and prominent angel investors such as Paul Graham, Taro Fukuyama, Dharmesh Shah, Paul Copplestone, and Karim Atiyeh. Alongside the funding announcement, AgentMail is launching its onboarding API, enabling AI agents to autonomously create secure email inboxes without human intervention.
AgentMail announced a $6 million seed round to fuel development of infrastructure tailored for the emerging agent economy. The investment, led by General Catalyst and supported by Y Combinator alongside high-profile angels, underscores growing confidence in AI agents as virtual employees requiring robust digital identity and communication tools.
The company is simultaneously launching its onboarding API, which lets AI agents independently sign up, create secure inboxes, and begin communicating with humans or other agents while incorporating safeguards against abuse.
As AI agents advance beyond simple chat interfaces into autonomous workflow managers, they need reliable identity, communication, and context persistence. Email remains the dominant internet communication standard, used by over 90% of U.S. internet users, yet legacy providers are optimized for humans—imposing rate limits, send-only restrictions, and scalability issues for agent workloads.
AgentMail delivers dedicated inboxes that enable full two-way conversations, complete with built-in features for parsing, threading, labeling, searching, and intelligent replying. This setup allows agents to interact seamlessly with services, vendors, and stakeholders, mirroring human employee capabilities.

Proceeds from the funding will support team expansion, platform enhancements, and accelerated adoption among developers and AI agents.
