Clear Signals for Closer Review Amid Rising Fraud

Fabricated work histories, borrowed identities and proxy interviews are challenging the assumption that applicants are who they claim to be. In a 2025 Gartner survey of 3,000 job candidates, 6% admitted to interview fraud, either impersonating someone else or having another person interview on their behalf. Gartner also predicts that one in four candidate profiles worldwide will be fake by 2028.

The burden falls on recruiters investigating discrepancies, hiring managers interviewing misrepresented candidates and legitimate applicants competing for attention. Manual checks across resumes, online profiles and other records make it difficult to resolve concerns early and consistently.

"Candidate fraud is an enterprise security risk. A fraudulent hire can become a backdoor to company systems, personal information and trade secrets," said Satish Kumar, CEO of Glider AI, a Findem company. "As foreign adversaries and criminal organizations grow more sophisticated, employers need stronger defenses at the point of entry. Authenticity Suite Pro gives hiring and security teams evidence to investigate concerns before a candidate gains access."

"Recruiters shouldn't be expected to defend against candidate fraud alone," said Kyle Lagunas, founder of Kyle & Co., the research firm behind The State of Candidate Fraud Detection & Prevention. "Our research points to a critical gap between detecting potential fraud and knowing how to respond. Hiring teams need clear evidence, a way to verify concerns and a defined process for involving security. A flag should start an informed review, not trigger an automatic rejection."

Authenticity Suite Pro draws on Findem's 3D People Graph, which spans 1.6 trillion data points across people, companies and time, to uncover inconsistencies in candidates' digital footprints. It connects resumes, profiles and thousands of data sources to put unusual signals into context and explain what warrants investigation. For example, flagging employment details that conflict with other sources, checking whether companies listed appear in company graph, repeated applications from single location, unusual employment overlaps and hidden text in documents. These signals warrant clarification; they do not establish misconduct.

Connected Checks From Application Through Employment

Authenticity Suite Pro connects and analyzes signals from application through interviews and into employment, helping teams identify inconsistencies that isolated checks may miss. Recruiters can invite candidates to short, consent-based, AI-proctored verification session through secure link. Liveness checks help confirm real person present. Government-issued ID verification also available subject to administrator permissions. Teams can request verification individually, in bulk or automatically for all future applicants.

An Authenticity Report on each candidate's profile brings together plain-language explanations, verification outcomes and timestamped records. It captures successful, unsuccessful and inconclusive checks, giving hiring and security teams audit trail of what was verified and when. Candidates receive explanation before consenting. Recruiters interpret findings and decide who advances; no applicant automatically advanced or rejected.

Findem also announced formation of Candidate Fraud Council, bringing together hiring leaders, CISOs and industry experts to discuss emerging threats and share practical approaches to detection and verification. Council will explore how employers can distinguish potential fraud from legitimate inconsistencies, strengthen hiring integrity and protect candidate trust.
