Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com company, and SAP SE announced on September 29, 2025, plans to integrate SAP Sovereign Cloud capabilities into the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, a new independent cloud for Europe backed by a €7.8 billion investment from Amazon. This collaboration enhances their 16-year partnership, combining SAP’s security-hardened cloud solutions with AWS’s infrastructure to address digital sovereignty, compliance, and AI innovation needs for European public sector and regulated industries.
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud, launching its first region in Brandenburg, Germany by the end of 2025, is designed to meet stringent data residency, operational autonomy, and resiliency requirements. SAP Sovereign Cloud capabilities, already available on AWS in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Canada, and India, will integrate with this new cloud to offer secure solutions like SAP Business Technology Platform and SAP Cloud ERP. These enable European organizations to manage critical processes and sensitive data while complying with local regulations.
“We’re delighted that SAP Sovereign Cloud capabilities will be available on the AWS European Sovereign Cloud,” said David Brown, vice president of Compute and Machine Learning at AWS. “SAP and AWS share a mutual vision – we want to ensure that our customers have access to some of the most advanced sovereignty solutions available.”
“With our expanded SAP Sovereign Cloud offerings, we’re enabling customers across all industries to harness the full power of cloud innovation and AI,” said Thomas Saueressig, Member of the Executive Board of SAP SE.
As of September 29, 2025, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) stock is priced at $222.569, with a market cap of $2.34 trillion, up from $186.33 in September 2024, reflecting strong growth in its cloud and AI initiatives (see finance card above). SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) stock stands at $262.94, with a market cap of $307.55 billion, up from $229.1 in September 2024, driven by its enterprise cloud and AI advancements (see finance card above).
This collaboration aligns with industry trends toward secure, compliant cloud solutions, as seen in Murex’s MXSaaS on AWS and Visa’s AI-powered VCS Hub, both emphasizing innovation in regulated sectors. The AWS-SAP partnership positions them to capture a share of the $2.5 trillion global cloud market, projected to grow to $3.2 trillion by 2030, with a focus on sovereignty and AI.
