Kong Inc., a leading developer of cloud API and AI technologies, has released its report, Agentic AI in the Enterprise: Paving the Path to Production, highlighting that 90% of enterprises are actively adopting AI agents. The study, based on a survey of 550 Kong users, developers, engineers, and IT decision-makers, shows 79% anticipate full-scale adoption within three years, with customer support as the top use case (58%) for generative AI impact.
The report underscores the rapid shift of agentic AI from concept to operational reality, driven by goals to reduce costs, streamline processes, and accelerate automation. Customer support systems powered by generative AI are delivering the most significant business value today. However, challenges remain: 31% cite integration complexity as the primary barrier, followed by security and compliance concerns at 28%. To address these, 89% of enterprises are implementing or seeking AI governance solutions, with 54% leveraging AI gateways as a middleware control plane for managing AI traffic, policies, and compliance.
Augusto Marietti, CEO and Co-Founder of Kong Inc., emphasized the role of APIs: “This research shows how quickly agentic AI is moving from theory to practice, but it's also clear that adoption could stall without strong API management. APIs are critical to agents, as they can't work without secure data connectivity or the necessary governance that goes with this. A unified platform like Konnect solves this by managing APIs in one place, provisioning credentials automatically, and making them agent-ready.”
The findings highlight the need for robust API management to support AI agent adoption. Kong's Konnect platform addresses this by providing a unified solution for API management, ensuring secure data connectivity and governance. With 90% of enterprises actively integrating AI agents and 79% projecting full adoption by 2028, the focus on scalable, secure infrastructure is critical to avoiding delays and maximizing impact.
Kong Inc., a leading developer of cloud API and AI technologies, is on a mission to empower companies to become "API-first" to advance and enable the AI era. They help organizations worldwide — from startups to Fortune 500 enterprises — unleash developer productivity, build securely, and accelerate time to market.
