Zefr, a leader in AI-powered content classification for digital advertising, has achieved Media Rating Council (MRC) accreditation for content-level brand safety and suitability labeling and reporting on English-language in-stream YouTube video content. This covers desktop, mobile web, mobile app, and connected TV environments, marking the first such accreditation for a third-party platform integration on YouTube.

Quick Intel

  • Zefr receives MRC accreditation for content-level brand safety and suitability reporting on YouTube in-stream videos (English language).
  • Accreditation applies across desktop, mobile web, mobile app, and connected TV, evaluating individual video content rather than channel or property-level classifications.
  • Builds on Zefr’s prior MRC accreditation for independent third-party viewability reporting on YouTube.
  • Enables advertisers to assess ad adjacency risks with greater precision and transparency using standards-based, audited methodologies.
  • Represents the first third-party accreditation of its kind following MRC Board ratification and independent CPA firm audit.
  • Reinforces Zefr’s position in delivering trusted, content-specific safety and suitability metrics for open platforms like YouTube.

This accreditation strengthens advertiser confidence in programmatic and direct YouTube campaigns by providing independent, granular verification of content suitability at the video level, addressing long-standing industry demands for more accurate brand safety controls beyond broad property classifications.

Advancing Content-Level Measurement Standards

Brand safety challenges in digital video advertising have often arisen from reliance on high-level channel or publisher categorizations, which can overlook variations within individual videos. Zefr’s accredited solution shifts to true content-level analysis, examining each piece of inventory for alignment with advertiser suitability standards.

The MRC accreditation confirms that Zefr’s methodologies, data governance, controls, and reporting processes meet rigorous industry benchmarks for validity, reliability, and effectiveness. An independent audit by an MRC-approved CPA firm validated these capabilities specifically for YouTube’s English-language in-stream environment.

George Ivie, MRC CEO and Executive Director, stated: “The MRC congratulates Zefr on earning accreditation for third-party Content-Level Brand Safety and Suitability content-labeling and reporting of Google YouTube for the submitted inventory and environments. This important achievement represents the first such accreditation for a third-party platform integration and demonstrates Zefr’s commitment to rigorous industry standards as well as provides the marketplace with greater transparency and accountability regarding safety and suitability across YouTube.”

Strengthening Advertiser Trust on YouTube

This milestone complements Zefr’s earlier MRC accreditation for viewability reporting on YouTube, creating a comprehensive suite of independent, standards-based metrics. Advertisers gain enhanced visibility into both how ads are viewed (viewability) and the context in which they appear (brand safety and suitability).

Rich Raddon, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Zefr, added: “Today is a watershed moment for Brand Safety. Historically, many of the industry’s challenges stemmed from relying on property-level controls rather than true content-level measurement. Now, advertisers can have greater confidence that content-level safety measurement is robust and accurate. Following YouTube's accreditation of Google Content Level YouTube Brand Safety and Suitability, Zefr is proud to be the first third party Company in this ecosystem to offer this accreditation, alongside MRC-accredited free viewability metrics.”

The accreditation excludes other Google-YouTube properties, non-Google platforms, and volumetric data reporting.

This development highlights ongoing industry progress toward more precise, transparent, and accountable measurement in AI-driven and open platform advertising ecosystems.
