MinIO, a leader in object-native AI data storage, announced on June 26, 2025, the launch of its Government business to provide enterprise-grade, on-premise, and private cloud solutions for government agencies. This initiative, led by Cameron Chehreh as President & General Manager and Deep Grewal as Vice President of Federal, supports sovereign AI missions with the MinIO AIStor platform, addressing the unique data storage needs of the Department of Defense (DoD) and other agencies.

Quick Intel

  • MinIO launches Government arm on June 26, 2025, for secure AI data storage.

  • Led by Cameron Chehreh (ex-Intel) and Deep Grewal (ex-AMD).

  • MinIO AIStor supports exascale data needs for sovereign AI initiatives.

  • Over 2 billion Docker downloads, top 0.06% of GitHub projects.

  • Software-defined model ensures scalability, security, and no vendor lock-in.

  • Addresses tactical edge challenges in DDIL environments.

Leadership and Strategic Vision

MinIO appointed Cameron Chehreh, former VP and GM of Intel’s worldwide public sector, and Deep Grewal, former AMD global public sector lead, to drive its Government arm. With over 40 years of combined federal IT experience, they aim to tackle the complexities of AI data storage for government missions. “Government IT leaders recognize the need for the flexibility and functionality of the cloud operating model, but are quickly realizing that storing data in sovereign clouds is the path forward,” said Chehreh. The initiative focuses on secure, scalable data solutions for mission-critical environments.

MinIO AIStor: Tailored for Government Needs

MinIO AIStor, the company’s commercial object storage platform, is designed to meet the exascale data demands of AI-driven government missions. Its software-defined architecture enables seamless scaling from tactical edge to core on-premise and public cloud environments. Key features include:

  • Data Ownership: Reduces costs across hardware, software, and support, avoiding vendor lock-in.

  • Security Compliance: Simplifies Authorization to Operate (ATO) on government networks.

  • Cloud Scalability: Supports sovereign cloud development with fault tolerance and redundancy.

  • Tactical Flexibility: Operates in Denied, Degraded, Intermittent, and Limited (DDIL) conditions.

  • Lightweight Deployment: Meets Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) requirements for military missions.

Unlike traditional hardware vendors, MinIO’s “pay-as-you-scale” model offers predictable costs, addressing the limitations of large-footprint systems in military deployments.

Addressing Tactical Edge Challenges

As government agencies expand AI adoption, public cloud storage struggles to meet mission needs in DDIL environments, where connectivity is unreliable and egress fees are costly. MinIO AIStor’s lightweight, software-centric approach ensures real-time data access at the tactical edge, critical for mission success. “The opportunity to apply MinIO AIStor to Government is transformational, enabling DoD and Government customers to solve the complexities of AI data storage,” said Garima Kapoor, Co-founder & Co-CEO of MinIO.

Proven Adoption and Ecosystem

MinIO’s open-source Community Edition has over 2 billion Docker downloads and ranks in the top 0.06% of GitHub projects, widely used in government missions. The company’s partnerships with Arm, Intel, and VMware enhance its ecosystem, with Intel as an investor and collaborator on the Tiber AI Cloud. MinIO’s 149% ARR growth over two years and adoption by over half of the Fortune 500 underscore its market leadership.

MinIO’s Government arm positions it as a critical player in secure, AI-ready data infrastructure, empowering agencies to harness exascale data for sovereign AI while ensuring scalability and security across diverse environments.

About MinIO

MinIO is the leader in high-performance object storage for AI. With 2B+ Docker downloads 50k+ stars on GitHub, MinIO is used by more than half of the Fortune 500 to achieve performance at scale at a fraction of the cost compared to the public cloud providers. MinIO AIStor is uniquely designed to meet the flexibility and exascale requirements of AI, empowering organizations to fully capitalize on existing AI investments and address emerging infrastructure challenges while delivering continuous business value. Founded in November 2014 by industry visionaries AB Periasamy and Garima Kapoor, MinIO is the world's fastest growing object store.
