Milestone Systems, a leader in data-driven video technology, has unveiled significant updates to its XProtect video management software and BriefCam analytics suite. These advancements address the growing challenge of processing vast amounts of camera and sensor data into actionable insights at scale. As AI and analytics become essential for identifying threats and operational opportunities, Milestone's new solutions reduce integration complexity, minimize downtime risks, and support innovation without requiring hardware replacements or overhauls of existing systems.
The XProtect App Platform introduces a containerized architecture built on Linux, allowing new applications—including AI tools, analytics, access control, and more—to integrate frictionlessly into XProtect environments. Each app or service operates in its own isolated container, separate from the core VMS and other applications. This design enables customers to install updates, add features, or deploy innovations without restarting the system or interrupting live surveillance operations. The platform extends current infrastructure, unlocking AI-driven insights while preserving operational stability and familiarity.
Complementing this, BriefCam's redesigned analytics engine delivers substantial performance gains, including a 38% improvement in real-time processing throughput based on in-house testing. The engine optimizes hardware utilization for greater scalability and workflow efficiency, with all computations remaining fully on-premise to maintain data sovereignty and control. Investigators benefit from intuitive features such as translating witness descriptions into plain-language searches, quickly pinpointing critical moments to shorten review times, constructing coherent narratives from disparate video sources, and training the system with organization-specific categorizations.
"The rapid growth of AI in video security has created an urgent need for platforms that can keep pace. Together with our partners and customers, we are cocreating the next generation of our technology on our open platform foundation. The XProtect App Platform and the new BriefCam engine are two major steps forward – giving organizations the flexibility to adapt quickly and confidently, as well as powerful on-premise intelligence that doesn't compromise data sovereignty or operational control." Andrew Burnett, Chief Technology Officer, Milestone Systems.
To foster ecosystem innovation, Milestone has enhanced its App Center as a marketplace for browsing, testing, and installing verified applications developed by Milestone and technology partners. This simplifies the discovery and deployment of new capabilities, such as advanced AI analytics, with reduced risk to production environments.
Supporting developers and partners, Milestone is launching the Developer Portal, a centralized resource that streamlines the entire process from ideation to release for building applications on the open platform. The portal is set to become generally available by the end of 2026.
The XProtect App Platform and new BriefCam engine are currently available to early access customers, with broader general availability scheduled for late 2026. Milestone will demonstrate these innovations, along with its full portfolio of VMS, VSaaS, and analytics solutions, at ISC West in booth #18053.
