  • commercetools has launched “Builders” and Commerce Integration Layer for enterprise commerce.

  • Tools enable AI-assisted creation of commerce experiences using natural language inputs.

  • Platforms like Claude Code, v0 and Cursor can directly build on commercetools infrastructure.

  • Commerce Integration Layer reduces complexity of connecting third-party systems.

  • Launch supports faster deployment of B2B and B2C commerce experiences.

  • Commerce Integration Layer will roll out later this year.

Accelerating Enterprise Commerce in the AI Era

commercetools is extending its headless, API-native commerce foundation into the AI era by enabling faster development workflows and reducing reliance on traditional long-cycle implementation projects. The company’s Sphere platform is designed to integrate directly with AI development tools, allowing teams to build production-ready commerce experiences using natural language prompts.

This shift represents a move from traditional project-based commerce development toward AI-assisted creation and deployment, significantly reducing time-to-market for enterprise organizations.

commercetools for Builders Enables AI-Driven Development

The new “commercetools for Builders” capability allows users to generate commerce experiences using AI tools such as Claude Code, v0 and Cursor. Users can describe desired outcomes in natural language and convert them into functional storefronts, catalogs and checkout experiences.

The system includes reusable prompts, skills libraries and implementation guidance designed to help teams move from concept to production quickly. It supports both B2C storefronts and B2B ordering portals on a unified enterprise-grade infrastructure.

"For years, enterprise commerce has required significant technical investment and long implementation cycles. We are removing that friction," said Dirk Hoerig, Founder and Chief Innovation Officer at commercetools. "The next generation of commerce experiences will be built and launched in a fraction of the time, starting with a prompt, not a project plan. This is the first step in a broader effort to collapse the time it takes to build, connect and launch enterprise commerce, from months of integration work toward a matter of weeks."

Simplifying Complex Commerce Integrations

The Commerce Integration Layer addresses one of the most persistent challenges in enterprise commerce: system integration. Traditionally, connecting commerce platforms with services such as search, content management, tax and promotions requires extensive custom development work.

The new layer centralizes integration logic into a single connection framework, reducing duplication of effort and allowing development teams to focus on building customer-facing experiences rather than managing backend connectivity.

Enabling Faster Time-to-Market for Enterprises

By combining AI-driven development tools with a simplified integration architecture, commercetools aims to dramatically reduce the time required to launch enterprise commerce solutions. This approach allows organizations to move from concept to deployment in a fraction of traditional timelines.

The platform is designed for a wide range of users, including developers, architects, agencies, founders and AI-native builders, enabling rapid experimentation and production-scale deployment across industries.

"AI is fundamentally changing how software is created," said Fernando Rojo, Head of v0 at Vercel. "By combining Vercel's AI-powered development experience with commercetools' enterprise-grade commerce capabilities, we're helping builders move from idea to production-ready commerce experiences at unprecedented speed."

Advancing the Autonomous Commerce Vision

The launch aligns with commercetools’ broader “Autonomous Commerce” strategy, where AI plays an increasing role not only in commerce operations but also in system design, integration and optimization.

By reducing technical barriers and implementation timelines, the company aims to help enterprises respond faster to changing market demands and expand commerce capabilities across channels, regions and business models.

Industry Shift Toward AI-Native Commerce Development

The introduction of AI-native commerce tooling reflects a broader industry transition toward composable, API-first and AI-assisted software development. As enterprises adopt generative AI tools, commerce platforms are increasingly being redesigned to support faster iteration, lower integration overhead and more autonomous system behavior.

Availability

commercetools for Builders is available immediately through developer documentation and platform resources. The Commerce Integration Layer is expected to be available later this year.
