Google Drive’s built-in document scanner just got a serious glow-up. But it’s rolling out only to Android users (nothing announced for iOS users yet). The update brings both smarter features and a fresh Material 3 design, making scanning less of a chore and more of a breeze.
Announcing in the Workspace Updates blog, the post read, “…you can crop or rotate your file, adjust its color by applying filters, erase shadows, and more.” If you’re someone who often scans receipts or important paperwork on the go, that shadow-erasing feature alone feels like a game-changer. No more struggling with overhead lights leaving streaks across your files.
On the design side, Google has given the scanner a much-needed facelift:
All of these updates are on their way to Google Workspace customers, both business and personal, by mid-September. So if you don’t see the new look yet, hang tight; it should show up in the coming days. For now, though, it’s Android-only. Google hasn’t shared when (or if) iOS users will get the upgrade, but we’ll keep an eye out for any updates.
Bottom line: scanning in Google Drive just leveled up. With cleaner UI, smarter tools, and fewer annoying shadows, managing your documents on the go just got a whole lot easier.
