Pantone, the global color authority, has partnered with Microsoft to launch the beta version of the Pantone Palette Generator, a new AI tool built using Microsoft Azure OpenAI. Integrated directly into the Pantone Connect platform, this chat-based interface leverages decades of color psychology and trend forecasting expertise from the Pantone Color Institute. The tool is designed to help designers expedite the research and inspiration phase of their workflow by generating intelligent color palettes and design concepts in seconds.
Pantone and Microsoft have launched an AI Palette Generator in beta.
The tool is built using Microsoft Azure OpenAI and integrated into Pantone Connect.
It uses Pantone's color psychology and trend forecasting data to generate palettes.
Designers can create palettes from thousands of colors in seconds via a chat interface.
It is available to all Pantone Connect users, including those with free accounts.
The tool is powered by Retrieval-Augmented Generation for accurate, insight-grounded results.
The Palette Generator transforms how designers find inspiration by providing instant, data-driven color recommendations. Users can prompt the AI assistant with questions like "What colors evoke optimism in Gen Z?" or request palettes inspired by specific eras, such as "1970s fashion editorials." The tool then responds with suggested color palettes based on Pantone's proprietary research and global trend insights. This allows designers to integrate sophisticated color and trend data efficiently, saving hours of manual research and jumpstarting the creative process.
Built on a robust Microsoft technology stack including Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI Search, and Azure Cosmos DB, the solution ensures scalability, security, and seamless cross-platform integration. The use of Retrieval-Augmented Generation technology means the AI semantically searches Pantone's own library of Color Insider and trend forecasting articles, ensuring that every palette is grounded in authoritative insights rather than generic data. User-generated palettes can be instantly added to Pantone Connect, analyzed, downloaded, and shared, creating a fast and collaborative design workflow for the future.
