  • Vonage is at the World Banking Forum with Aduna, Deutsche Telekom, and mBank to tackle banking fraud.

  • Cybercrime damages are projected to hit $11.9 trillion annually by 2026, demanding new solutions.

  • The convergence of 5G, Network APIs, and AI is key to revolutionizing fraud prevention.

  • Network APIs provide banks with real-time, verified network data to intelligently reduce fraud.

  • Aduna acts as a global aggregator, making these network capabilities accessible to developers.

  • Vonage's APIs give developers the tools to build secure verification processes at scale.

The Evolving Threat Landscape and a Convergent Solution

The digitization of financial services has led to a surge in sophisticated, AI-enabled fraud. This escalating threat, coupled with tightening regulations, makes advanced defense strategies critical. At the forum, industry leaders are discussing how embedding mobile network capabilities directly into banking applications via APIs provides a powerful solution. This approach leverages verified network data to enhance security without creating friction for the customer. "From a telecom perspective, the digitization of banking has significantly increased demands on network security. Deutsche Telekom is committed to offering specific network APIs that directly address these evolving fraud and security needs," said Andrzej Ochocki, Head of Identity Management at Deutsche Telekom.

How Network APIs Enable Secure and Seamless Banking

The ecosystem involves telecommunications providers, aggregators like Aduna, and developer platforms like Vonage. Aduna standardizes and aggregates network capabilities from global telcos, which Vonage then exposes to developers through its APIs. This allows financial institutions like mBank to integrate these capabilities directly into their fraud and authentication workflows. "Vonage Network APIs give developers a platform to build solutions for banks to automate verification processes at scale, leveraging programmable network capabilities and verified network data for fraud protection," said David Darmon, VP of International Sales, API, at Vonage.

The collaboration showcased at the World Banking Forum signals a strategic shift in combating financial fraud. By leveraging the intrinsic security of telecom networks through APIs, banks can build a more robust defense system. This not only reduces revenue loss but also transforms the customer experience by making high-level security seamless and integrated directly into digital banking interactions.
