U.K. enterprises are embedding cybersecurity into their core operations to address tightening regulations, escalating AI-driven threats, and a persistent talent shortage, according to the 2025 ISG Provider Lens® Cybersecurity — Services and Solutions report by Information Services Group (ISG). The report highlights the need for unified security platforms and sector-specific expertise to navigate a complex cyber landscape.

  • U.K. firms integrate cybersecurity to meet regulatory and AI-driven threat challenges.

  • Enterprises shift to unified platforms for end-to-end visibility and control.

  • Demand grows for managed detection, response, and identity access management (IAM).

  • AI and automation enhance threat detection, with focus on transparent governance.

  • Data sovereignty and U.K.-based SOCs are critical for government and regulated sectors.

  • Talent shortages extend to governance and third-party risk management skills.

Navigating a Complex Cyber Landscape

The ISG report underscores the unprecedented complexity facing U.K. enterprises due to stringent regulations, fragmented security systems, and sophisticated threat actors. “U.K. enterprises are facing unprecedented complexity as regulations, threat actors and rapid innovation reshape the cybersecurity landscape,” said Anthony Drake, partner and head of ISG’s U.K. business. Organizations are prioritizing compliance-driven strategies to counter AI-enhanced threats, such as phishing and ransomware, while addressing a shortage of skilled professionals in technical, governance, and risk management roles.

Shift to Unified Security Platforms

Enterprises are moving away from fragmented security tools toward integrated platforms that provide centralized visibility and control. The report highlights strong demand for managed detection and response (MDR) and identity and access management (IAM) services, alongside security posture management with seamless interoperability. “Given the increased demand for local expertise and regulatory alignment, U.K. enterprises are relying on providers to deliver technical solutions and trusted, locally grounded services,” said Bhuvaneshwari Mohan, lead analyst, ISG Provider Lens Research.

Leveraging AI and Automation

As cyber threats evolve, U.K. firms are adopting AI and automation to improve threat detection and decision-making. Enterprises seek providers offering transparent AI models and robust governance to ensure responsible use. These technologies are critical for staying ahead of AI-driven attacks, which are becoming more sophisticated. The report notes that providers integrating AI effectively are gaining traction in the U.K. market, particularly in sectors like finance and healthcare.

Prioritizing Data Sovereignty and Local Expertise

Regulatory scrutiny, including GDPR and sector-specific mandates, has heightened the focus on data sovereignty. Government, healthcare, defense, and legal sectors increasingly require U.K.-based security operations centers (SOCs) to ensure compliance. Enterprises value providers with local operations and sector expertise, balancing tailored consulting with automated, repeatable services to meet these demands.

Industry Leaders and Trends

The ISG report evaluates 122 providers across nine quadrants, naming IBM as a Leader in five, and Accenture, Atos, BT, and others as Leaders in three each. Emerging technologies like extended detection and response (XDR) and security service edge (SSE) are gaining adoption. Infosys and Microland are highlighted as Rising Stars in two quadrants, signaling their promising potential. For more insights, see the ISG Focal Points briefing at ISG Focal Points.

The shift toward integrated cybersecurity reflects U.K. enterprises’ commitment to resilience, readiness, and regulatory compliance. By partnering with providers offering local expertise and advanced platforms, organizations are strengthening their defenses against a dynamic threat landscape, ensuring operational continuity and trust.
