Pioneering Open Innovation in Robotics

On June 13, 2025, Shenzhen EngineAI Robotics, a leader in humanoid robotics, introduced a groundbreaking open-source initiative to accelerate global robotics development. The release includes a dual-framework offering: EngineAI RL Workspace for training and a ROS2-based deployment framework, EngineAI ROS. These tools provide an end-to-end solution, from algorithm training to practical application, enabling developers to create sophisticated humanoid robots for diverse scenarios like industrial tasks, education, and home use.

EngineAI RL Workspace: Streamlining Development

"EngineAI views open-sourcing as more than a technical offering, it is an ecosystem-building effort," said Zhao Tongyang, founder and CEO of EngineAI. The EngineAI RL Workspace is a modular reinforcement learning platform tailored for legged robotics. It integrates environment setup, algorithm training, and performance evaluation into a seamless pipeline. With four core clusters—environment modules, algorithm engines, shared toolkits, and integration layers—the system allows independent module modifications, reducing communication overhead and enabling efficient multi-person collaboration. Its single-algorithm executor supports unified training and inference, prioritizing algorithmic innovation over repetitive infrastructure tasks.

Advanced Tools for Full-Cycle Experimentation

The RL Workspace includes advanced features like dynamic recording systems for capturing video during training and inference, alongside intelligent version management to ensure experiment consistency. This eliminates manual file searches and prevents version mismatches, streamlining the development process. The platform’s decoupling of algorithms and environments allows seamless iteration without altering interface definitions, making it highly adaptable for developers working on complex robotics projects.

EngineAI ROS: Bridging Theory to Practice

Complementing the RL Workspace, EngineAI ROS is a ROS2-based deployment framework designed to connect algorithm models with real-world use cases. This framework ensures that developed algorithms can be efficiently applied to practical scenarios, enhancing the usability of humanoid robots in industrial, commercial, and educational settings. Detailed user guides accompany both frameworks, enabling developers to quickly integrate these tools into their projects, further lowering entry barriers.

Fostering a Global Robotics Ecosystem

EngineAI’s open-source release aligns with its vision to lead the development of general-purpose humanoid robots. By sharing advanced tools and frameworks, the company empowers startups, research institutions, and independent developers to contribute to the embodied intelligence revolution. This initiative, supported by Shenzhen’s robust technological ecosystem, positions EngineAI to drive collaborative innovation and shape the future of intelligent machines worldwide.
