  • WinDC deploys modular, high-density AI compute at solar, wind, and hydro sites to utilize stranded renewable energy and bypass grid congestion.
  • Partnership integrates Megaport’s private, high-speed connectivity, enabling secure, low-latency access to WinDC’s AI Factories from anywhere in Australia and Megaport’s international network.
  • Addresses renewable curtailment, with AEMO forecasting up to 65% curtailment for new solar farms in Victoria and South Australia by 2027, and existing farms averaging 4.5%.
  • WinDC’s portable model deploys 8× faster, operates at 50% of traditional data centre costs, and runs on 100% renewable energy.
  • First portable WinDC data centres arrive in Australia in early 2026, offering immediate access for neo-cloud, research, and global enterprise customers.
  • Collaboration positions Australia to export clean, sovereign AI capability while supporting national AI ambitions with secure, green infrastructure.

Solving Australia’s Renewable Curtailment Challenge

Australia generates substantial renewable energy, yet significant portions remain unused due to transmission constraints and curtailment. Forecasts from the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) indicate that hypothetical new solar farms in key regions could face curtailment rates as high as 65% by 2027, while existing facilities already lose an average of 4.5%. This stranded energy represents billions in lost economic value and a major untapped resource for powering sovereign AI infrastructure.

WinDC introduces a novel approach by placing portable, high-density compute directly at the point of renewable generation—behind the meter—eliminating reliance on congested urban grids and metropolitan data centre builds. This model captures otherwise wasted clean power and converts it into immediately usable AI capacity.

Megaport Enables Global, Secure Connectivity

Through the partnership, Megaport’s Software Defined Network (SDN) and Network as a Service (NaaS) platform provide private, high-performance connectivity to WinDC’s AI Factories. Customers gain low-latency, secure links to major cloud providers, enterprise networks, and international markets without compromising data sovereignty or performance.

This integration makes WinDC’s renewable-powered compute accessible with the same simplicity as provisioning any other Megaport service, benefiting neo-cloud providers, research institutions, global enterprises, and organizations seeking Green AI solutions.

“Australia cannot become a leader in AI without a new approach to infrastructure,” said Andrew Sjoquist, Founder and CEO of WinDC. “WinDC delivers the compute at the source of clean power. Megaport delivers the connectivity that makes it accessible everywhere. Together, we provide a scalable pathway for organisations to run advanced AI workloads on renewable energy, independent of grid congestion or urban infrastructure constraints.”

“WinDC is addressing an urgent and legitimate gap in Australia’s digital infrastructure,” said Michael Reid, CEO of Megaport. “They are turning stranded renewable energy into usable AI compute. By connecting WinDC to our global platform, we are making that capability available to thousands of organisations worldwide and giving Australia the opportunity to export clean, sovereign AI. It is an exciting step forward for Australia’s AI ambitions.”

Delivering Fast, Cost-Effective, and Sustainable AI Infrastructure

WinDC’s portable AI Factories deploy eight times faster than traditional data centres, operate at half the cost, and run exclusively on renewable energy. The first units are scheduled to arrive in Australia in early 2026, enabling organizations to consume Enterprise Green Edge infrastructure and Green AI services without the delays and environmental impact associated with conventional builds.

“Our partnership with Megaport means WinDC’s capabilities are immediately accessible to Megaport customers globally. It has never been easier for organisations to consume Enterprise Green Edge infrastructure and Green AI services,” said Jonathan Staff, Executive Director at WinDC.

This collaboration advances Australia’s position in the global AI landscape by combining abundant clean energy resources with cutting-edge connectivity, offering a scalable, sovereign pathway to meet growing demand for sustainable compute.
