Lumen Technologies announced Sean Alexander’s appointment to lead its Connected Ecosystems division, aiming to drive customer co-innovation, strategic partnerships, and new revenue streams. “Sean brings a rare combination of technical depth, market vision, and go-to-market execution,” said Ashley Haynes-Gaspar, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer at Lumen. “He’s the right leader to expand our enterprise ecosystem and turn innovation into growth and customer impact.” Alexander will report directly to Haynes-Gaspar, focusing on shaping Lumen’s product roadmap through customer use cases and real-world feedback.
Alexander’s mandate includes scaling Lumen’s presence in the $15 billion multi-cloud networking market by forging alliances in key verticals like healthcare, manufacturing, and energy. His team will enhance Lumen’s Network-as-a-Service (NaaS), edge cloud, and AI infrastructure offerings, ensuring they meet enterprise needs in the AI era. “Lumen is redefining what digital networking infrastructure means in the AI era, and that opens the door to new kinds of partnerships, innovation, and value creation,” said Alexander. “I’m thrilled to join a company building the connective tissue between our customers, our technology and the ecosystem around us.”
With a robust background as a founding executive of Microsoft AI, Alexander played a key role in launching Microsoft AI and establishing its landmark partnership with OpenAI. Most recently, he served as CEO of Phoenician Advisors, guiding organizations through large-scale AI transformations. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Tulsa and has completed executive programs at MIT Sloan and Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.
Lumen’s appointment of Alexander aligns with its Q2 2025 earnings, which reported a narrower-than-expected loss per share (-$0.03 vs. -$0.25 forecast) and over 1,000 customers on its NaaS platform. Posts on X highlight market optimism, noting an 18% share surge following the announcement, reflecting confidence in Alexander’s leadership to drive growth in AI and digital infrastructure.
