The drive to upskill the global workforce in artificial intelligence is gaining significant new resources. Coursera, a leading online learning platform, has announced a partnership with AI research company Anthropic and the launch of two new Specializations. The courses, "Building with the Claude API" and "Real-World AI for Everyone," are designed to teach developers and professionals how to effectively and responsibly work with Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, addressing a critical skills gap as AI reshapes industries.
Coursera has partnered with AI research company Anthropic.
Two new Specializations launched: "Building with the Claude API" and "Real-World AI for Everyone."
The courses aim to close the AI skills gap, as only one-third of employees have received AI training.
The developer-focused course covers prompt engineering, RAG, and agentic workflows.
The generalist course, built with Advancing Women in Technology (AWIT), emphasizes ethical and inclusive AI use.
The partnership aims to drive responsible AI innovation at a global scale.
The first Specialization, "Building with the Claude API," is tailored for developers seeking to build intelligent systems and streamline workflows. It provides hands-on experience with Anthropic's developer tools, covering essential techniques such as prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic workflows. The curriculum is designed to give learners the practical skills needed to deploy safe and effective AI applications, moving from fundamental concepts to real-world implementation. “Claude can transform your workday, acting as a brainstorm partner, a researcher, and a coder,” said Maggie Vo, Anthropic’s Head of Education.
The second offering, "Real-World AI for Everyone," is designed for professionals of all experience levels and backgrounds. Created in collaboration with Advancing Women in Technology (AWIT), this Specialization focuses on applying AI to everyday tasks like writing, analysis, and communication. A core emphasis is placed on ethical use, transparency, and inclusion, aiming to broaden access to AI learning and ensure its benefits are distributed evenly. “Yet today, AI use remains uneven across different groups. And anyone, at any level, can benefit from deliberate, hands-on practice,” said Nancy Wang, Founder and CEO of AWIT.
This partnership arrives at a critical time. According to data from Boston Consulting Group, only one-third of employees have received training on how to work effectively with AI. This creates an urgent need for scalable, practical education that can boost individual productivity and overall workforce readiness. By combining Anthropic's technical expertise in safe AI with Coursera's global reach and AWIT's inclusive approach, the initiative aims to empower millions of learners to innovate and thrive in an AI-transformed world. “We’re expanding access to trusted, cutting-edge AI skills, empowering learners everywhere with new ways to work, innovate, and thrive,” said Greg Hart, CEO of Coursera.
The launch of these Specializations represents a significant step in structuring the chaotic landscape of AI learning. By providing clear, authoritative, and practical pathways for both technical and non-technical professionals, Coursera and Anthropic are helping to build a foundation of knowledge and skill that is essential for the responsible and effective adoption of AI across the global economy.
