Shopify recently hosted an insightful webinar featuring Chris Spence, a Shopify sales lead in Australia, and Shannon Dutton, a Shopify Solutions Engineer. The session covered the benefits of Shopify Plus, when to consider upgrading, and how businesses can leverage its advanced features for growth.

Kicking off the discussion with AI trends in commerce, Chris noted that 55% of marketers have integrated AI into their workflows, further highlighting:

  • McKinsey's prediction of AI contributing $210 billion to the fashion industry over five years, and
  • Gartner's forecast about 20% of e-commerce images and videos will be AI-generated this year.

 

Who Is Shopify Plus for?

Moving on to Shopify Plus and its target market, Chris explained that the Plus upgrade was created for merchants reaching $1 million in annual sales, emphasizing that it's not just for enterprise businesses but for growing merchants looking to scale. Key features include:

  • Checkout Optimizations
  • AOV improvement through functions
  • Launchpad efficiency
  • International & B2B growth capabilities

He further emphasized that while Shopify Plus doesn't guarantee growth, it serves as a powerful tool for merchants with specific growth goals.

 

B2B & International Expansion Made Easier

71% of B2B buyers are millennials/Gen Z, demanding seamless online purchasing (no more phone/email orders). Shopify’s B2B features include custom pricing, volume discounts, and net payment terms, helping cater to these changing dynamics.

Shopify Markets simplifies selling internationally by localizing pricing, languages, and payments. Expansion Stores allow up to nine additional storefronts for deeper localization (e.g., US, EU, APAC).

 

Shopify Plus Action Items

Here are a few action items as demonstrated by Chris and Shannon:

  • Implement ReBuy for cross-selling and upselling capabilities in the checkout process
  • Enable checkout notifications for shipping delays during busy periods like BFCM
  • Implement trust badges in the checkout to increase customer confidence
  • Test different placements of trust badges and upsells to optimize checkout performance
  • Develop specific project goals when moving to Shopify Plus
  • Avoid implementing payment surcharges to prevent checkout abandonment
  • Consult BNPL solution service terms before implementing surcharges
  • Utilize B2B primitives for wholesale pricing management
